Anybody know when Gene started using the long mic?  So far I've seen most of MG74 and its still short?  Who were the panelists that week?  Thanks in advance!

This doesn't answer your question, but I'll start with semantics: The short, thin mic is actually the same as the long, thin mic (at least through about 1979).  It's a telescoping mic, and at some point, Gene simply started pulling it to its full length because of his personal preference.

Actually, I knew that.  It's a Sony ECM-51 telescopic mic.  In 1978, they replaced it with a custom made one that was only one section so it wouldn't break as easily.  But, I'm glad you at least offered some info.  My guess is that it was during New Years week 74 into 75 when he started using it that way but I'm not sure.
