43 years ago today, The Price Is Right with Bill Cullen ended its daytime and nighttime runs on NBC. Seeing its ratings sag after being moved several times from its prime slot of Wednesdays at 8:30 PM, NBC chose to cancel Price, but ABC stepped in and the last minute and snapped Price up. But unlike NBC, ABC didn't have the facilities or the money to air it in color. That plus many markets then didn't have an ABC station, so Price aired on those cities' CBS station on secondary affiliation.

Nothing is known about the daytime finale, but the nighttime finale aired on GSN some six years ago. On that show, Bill brought announcer Don Pardo out during a contestant's bonus because as Don had contractual ties to NBC, he could not go with the show when it moved to ABC (daytime Sept. 9, nighttime Sept. 18) and Bill wanted everyone to know that Price wouldn't have been the success it was without Don's talents.

Johnny Gilbert took over as announcer when the show moved to ABC.
