I'm sure it was only for that period though. Would CBS put out this survey for nothing?

As I said, I cannot reveal the source as they asked me not to. I can tell you that if things don't change for TPIR ratings or otherwise, we will be saying good-bye to the longest-running gameshow in television history.
Please define "or otherwise."

And let me just say this, there are only nine users I'd trust on here for any "behind the scenes" information: Marc, ClockGameJohn, SteveGavazzi, nanny, KenCrane, ewalker, price_authority, MSTie & DrewCarey (both of whom won't be posting here, since MSTie works for the show, and Drew refers to this site as "telephone pole screamers").
TPIRFAN1964... you're not on that list, buddy. And based on what Steve had to say, it wouldn't surprise me if your "source" just told you something to get you to stop pestering them.

Please allow me to point something out...

I can't reveal my sources - as I gave my word, but
someone who knows what the survey is about gave me some very interesting news concerning why [the survey] is coming out now.
Then we get this...

The survey, was never mentioned in my discussions with the source
who knows the situation.
Now, is it just me, or are these not two totally conflicting statements? CBS won't be cancelling TPiR until it hits sub-Guiding Light levels. Shows don't get cancelled because
one
show on
one
other network beats it from time to time. When you're #2 on your network (in daytime) and top 3? 5? overall in daytime you don't get cancelled. Not to mention that high-profile shows like TPiR won't be under cancellation watch without
some
sort of media attention.

Unfortunately, for us, I don't think TPIR is such a high-profile show now since Drew took over. There is hardly any publicity on the show. (they tried, as in the recent "500th Drew Carey TPIR show" but if you search the web, it was hardly picked up anywhere).
But I don't really think that CBS would cancel the show. If Drew does leave at the end of this season, I am sure that CBS would think in a way we would hate...that the show needs a totat revamp (here we come American Idolized Price Is Right!). And, without doubt, Rich would ge gone too.
Rich is too identified with Drew for him to stay if they want to re-invent the show. He has become almost a side-kick to Drew. And it doesn't help that Rich has denigrated his own style into that of a corny gameshow announer.
The survey sure hints at that some great shake-up could be coming to the show if the results are negative. I would think that not only would Drew go, but maybe some of the many producers they have (since they are responsible for the prizes, set-ups, game-line-ups and production side of the show).

I have mentioned this before, that I have a feeling that Drew leaving may indeed be bad for the show as a whole. We may be in trouble regardless. I dislike the current state of the show as much as the next person, but losing a good deal of the production staff could mean really bad things. Unless they were replaced with Roger...

Yes indeed they are. It only proves the point already mentioned: we should wait on a confirmation from a more reliable source before jumping to conclusions based on what we've read so far.

IF the survey does come back badly and CBS decides that something has to be done, I too fear for a bigger overhaul of the show. (remember, the survey might show that most people like the "new direction," however hard that is to believe)
Not only would Drew and Rich be replaced, I am sure that Mike Richards would be out too, since he holds the ultimate responsibility for what they were doing. A bigger overhaul might also mean cutting out some of the old-time members of the staff like Kathy, Adam, and Stan. Are they just soldiers following orders or are they making their own decisions. Is Fingers following orders with her bad set ups (e.g. That Too Much) or does she simply doesn't get it? Is Stan choosing dumber contestants or are they the only ones coming to the show now? Does Adam not understand how to rotate games or how to make interesting line-ups?
Remember, CBS didn't blink twice when they got rid of Roger who was the most important member of that staff.
In a way, I almost hope for the survey to come back semi-OK and they only make little changes.

I
, for one, like the new look and feel of the show. The only problem I have is that at this point, diminished program time and spotty hosting makes the new visual look appear to be more flash than substance.
If the new look could have been accompanied by stellar contestant interaction, fair/interesting game setups, and more consistent hosting*, I don't think we would be having this discussion.
I have nothing against Drew, I just want the show I love to continue being a show I
*can*
love. His performance is the key to making this happen.
*(not to mention more interesting music cues)
