Square 4 always has the highest values on the board (in round 2, it was $3,000+1 Spin, $4,000+1 Spin and $5,000+1 Spin, for example).  In square 12 was always the Big Bucks space shuffling with 2 other values, directing the landing player to square 4. (Hence, the chant for "Big Bucks".)

Generally, in the bottom left corner slide during round 2 was $2000 or Lose One Whammy, square 11 had an "Advance 2" and Square 6 usually had a "Back 2." Pick A Corner was also present during round 2 boards in the top right corner.

Thank you for replying so honestly. I don't doubt your game theory abilities and I apologize for my bitterness. If you wanna see my PYL game, JC, give me a holler. I'll show you what I did.

Also the Whammies were in mostly fixed positions during the run.  I have all of the board configurations throughout the entire run.  If you're interested in them or would like to take a peek at my game as well, give me a holler.

As I said before, I'm not interested in particular dollar values being in particular places. My only concern is the board maintaining the same general layout as it did in the show. For the board to play true enough to the show for my tastes, you'd have to keep these standard features that stayed true through the entire run of the show.

  • "Big Bucks" was always in Square #12, which took you up to Square #4, which always contained the highest dollar values on the board.

  • There was always "Go Back 2 Spaces" in square #6, also taking you to the square with the big money.
  • "Advance 2 Spaces" always resided in #11.

There were also "Move 1 Space" squares that appeared in different places in Rounds 1 and 2. Round 1 had one such square in Square #1. Round 2 had two "Move 1 Space" squares in Square #9 and Square #14.

"Pick A Corner", while I don't know if it's being included in the game or not, always appeared in Square #6.

The bulleted points are really the most important, IMO. Thanks JC, for your continued hard work, and for keeping in touch with the truest of game show fans!

Yes, most definitely. You can throw whammies in every other square, just as long as most of the ones you've highlighted are in.

And getting the iWin guy is a good decision, too. He did great in that game and it will almost be like having some familiarity in these games.

I've just got a couple things to add, regarding Pick a Corner.

If you include this, make sure it's actually *in* a corner, first of all.  The show always used upper-right, but that's not mandatory.  (If you've also got 'Go Back 2 Spaces' in the upper-right, though, you might want to keep them on the same space to prevent easy access to Big Bucks.)

If you include this, you probably don't want *any* Whammies in the other three corners.

If you include this, try to make sure there aren't any lame choices.  For instance, if the contestant ever has to choose between $500, $1,250, and $2,000, you're doing it wrong.  In general, try to make one corner prizes, one corner high-ish dollar amounts, and the last corner smaller dollar amounts-with-spins.

That said, it's not a deal-breaker if Pick-A-Corner's not in the game, to me.  If you don't have the time to make sure it's put in the game properly, you're probably better off leaving it out entirely.

I don't think it really makes a whole lot of difference where the directional spaces are, as long as they all lead to sensible choices (You wouldn't want Move 1 Space to $500 or $1,000, or Pick a Corner: $750/$1,500/$1,000*).  As CJBojangles said, though, Big Bucks and Go Back Two Spaces should both lead to square 4, where the three largest dollar values are.  It would be best if the board was laid out like in CJBojangles' post, but variations on the locations of particularly the Move 1 Space squares won't make or break the game.

* The actual show did this for one show in 1986 before they realized their error!

Another point I do want to bring up (I also brought it up on the PYL forum) is that the prize spaces should all have captions at the bottom so you know what the prize actually is.  And don't forget that when a prize is hit, it is always replaced with a new prize.

The rest of the game looks very good.  Cool

The PYL board layouts were made by me. There is still time to change them, but VERY LITTLE. I'll ask you guys to bear with me and tell me if there are other such spaces that only appear in specific spots. I made the boards to be balanced and (I hope) fun, but I didn't take into consideration the fact that the Big Bucks space should only be in space 4 (among other things).

JC:

I know you've put a lot of time into it and it looks great; however, as the others have posted there are certain spaces that bring home the nostalgia of the show.  I'll say this - whether it's PYL, TPiR or any other game show recreation you're going to be working on, ask on here or another board and you'll be sure to get the correct info (with or without infighting ;P ).

Say, since we're discussing - are there any accomplishment awards?  Maybe not for 2010... but if there's a 2011... Cheesy

I think he did mention that there would be as some point, at least for Price. There were achievements in the last game, anyway.

If there are acheivements in the new versions as well, that gives me even more reason to buy at least one of them, or possibly both.

Hey JC Ludia,

Is there any chance that either the PYL 2010 of FF 2010 games would include a "big red buzzer" attachment that could be plugged into a port of a DS?

You could use the GBA slot of the original DS and DS Lite for such an item.  Then you're screwing the people who have the newest technology, the DSi, the game system without a GBA slot.  There are no ports or places to hook up such an item on the DSi.  Why would you need something which adds to the overall cost of the game and would have little, it not zero use outside of those two games when you could simply touch the lockouts on the DS' bottom screen?

Here's some gameplay video from both Price is Right 2010 and Press Your Luck 2010. "Big Bucks" in Square 3...interesting.

Quite an interesting video indeed. The use of the classic TPIR theme at the end makes it even better.

Saw the gameplay vids.  Looks like 3 Strikes will be played for big item cars this time.  PYL looked cool too.  The long wait begins.  lol

Well, that and make a peripheral that would weigh more than the DS itself?
