I don't particularly like this, mainly because it was FAR from necessary. I'm sorry for being like a damn sitcom character creating the episode's plot by jumping to conclusions, but the really scary thing is that the picture very nearly looks like me - another reason why it was unnecessary.

I could be wrong but the screenshots of PYL at E3 may not be what the final build would look like.  Usually at E3 the games on display aren't completely done.

My fault, I didn't notice it was a hyperlink.  You guys weren't exaggerating--Rosen is BEYOND awful.  How long was he around?

Not long, thankfully.  He did two non-consecutive weeks of tapings in the winter of '04.

I have all the announcer fill-ins for both Johnny and Rod in the timeline, in case you ever happen to be bored some afternoon.

Is Rosen really that bad?

Oh yes, but Rich sucked it up pretty bad his first several months at the mic as well, IMHO.

If anyone would be as kind to point me in the direction of either an early Rich show or his debut, I'm curious to hear what it sounds like... as Daniel's set the bar really low.

Here's Rich's first show, and here's one of Daniel's.

Rich still has his detractors but thankfully, has improved a lot since his first show.  In any case, something a few replies back just caught my eye--did Daniel really create a bunch of accounts just to promote himself around here?

(And to get back on topic, my guess is that if not Rich, it's probably Burton or maybe Randy West; it's more than likely someone who has exposure to PiR--my pick is Burton since he's active on Feud at this very moment and would be a good choice for both)

Promotional consideration for this post provided in part by TVTropes.org; see such fine tropes as "TVTropes Will Ruin Your Life;" "TVTropes Will Enhance Your Life;" "TVTropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary," and the all-time favorite, "TVTropes Ruined My Life!"

Like I said, I can't remember if we ever figured that out for sure (I think Doug Bradshaw suspected it was him)...but somebody sure did.

Isn't this being a LITTLE bit TOO picky? 99.9999999999999999999999999999% of the people that buy the game aren't going to care if there's a trip in the 4th square or if there's coin around the money. This is just me, but it seems a lot of us are critiquing the game already and it's not even released yet. Maybe we should praise some of the good work they've done.

While I agree that Ludia should be praised for making what looks like a good game, if you're saying that on a fansite where things about a game show are nitpicked to no end that a game that's a recreation can't be nitpicked, in my opinion that's way off-base.

It's most likely a beta and there's time for them to change it.  I look at it this way:  Way back when, in the mid-90's when there was still a CES happening at Chicago, I was lucky enough to attend.  There was a demo of Midway/Acclaim's MK II for the consoles.  It was just a teaser with a couple of players and a couple of backgrounds.  Were we excited?  Sure.  Was it a beta?  Yes.  Now - if the game came out and it was like the earlier MK that was released for SNES, I wouldn't buy it - it's not like the arcade.

The same applies here - if it's not like the show, why buy it, PriceFan14?

Forgot - on a different topic... thanks grf - Rich was even more, well, Rich on the cold open but blows Rosen out of the water on his day 1.

Even if it's a little different from the show itself, I'll still buy it.

Had I known what I know now about the PYL DVD game, I wouldn't have spent a dime on it.

I agree with you on the coinage, but I'm with everyone else on the '4th square' issue.  I may be overestimating people, but I would believe that most people who've watched Press Your Luck more than about once would be able to recognize that the 'Big Bucks' square belongs on the top row.

I have indeed seen PYL and I would think that I'd be able to recognize the Big Bucks square and where it should go.

And there's something to be said for gameplay mechanics: I think that the game on TV is balanced and very playable. Inflation is OK. It'd be like messing with the configuration of, say, Risk or Monopoly. Changing the layout of the directional squares and the special stuff changes how the game feels.

I don't have a lot of time to explain a lot of stuff here (we're working a lot to get it done!)

The PYL board layouts were made by me. There is still time to change them, but VERY LITTLE. I'll ask you guys to bear with me and tell me if there are other such spaces that only appear in specific spots. I made the boards to be balanced and (I hope) fun, but I didn't take into consideration the fact that the Big Bucks space should only be in space 4 (among other things).

We decided to build boards ourselves based on a few factors, namely that pretty much no one has the same favorite layout. Every answer I got was different, for different reasons.

I'm sorry if you guys are disappointed by that. Sad

As for the voice acting, I can confirm the voice actor we used for Family Feud: it's a nice fellow named Terence McGovern. He did the voice acting for the iWin versions of Family Feud and did a wonderful job with them. You guys can look up his resume online if you want. Smile He's a really nice guy as well.

As for the Miis, I already explained it and someone else quoted me again, but the game is not exclusive to the Wii, so we developed an avatar system to match all of our releases. The thing to note with Miis as well is that they really don't match the visual style of the game, are not as expressive and are limited in what they can accomplish, whereas our avatars are full-body avatars with limbs that are fully animated. I personally very much prefer our avatar system than the Miis.

I'll come back later to reply more in depth but right now I have so much on my plate that I can just quickly write this.
