To me, being let go (dismissed, fired, or whatever one wants to call it) is a little more heroic in this situation than being retired.  Even though Bart was not the greatest director, he was one of the old-school price is right people.  In my scenario ( I am a romanticist) he fought to do things the classic way and was against all these new silly gimmicks.  The company decided, like they did with  Roger, he was in the way of a new direction and they let him go. 

A Much better story than simply retiring.

I talked to some friends and everyone still working 33 says nothing was really voluntary.  I was around when Bart was but I won't say anything bad about him.
