This is more than a paint job.  Contestant's Row has gone LED for Season 38.

Depending how it's handled...this could be pretty cool!

I just read Drew's first blog entry. An interesting read if I do say so myself.

In the picture on Drew's twitter, it sort of looks like the screen is/was on, and it looks like the numbers might be the same.

Yeah...I didn't even realize they'd changed anything besides the colors.

So...I can't help but noticing we're not in his "Cool Sites I Recommend."  Or anywhere in the blog post.  That's kinda disappointing.

On the other hand, gotta give him props for saying what the rest of us have already known for over a decade about the show's "official" sites. Smile

This is a new update that Drew added a few minutes ago, I thought you'd like to see it

"I will be Tweeting from backstage tomorrow from my arrival till the show start. With pics."

So, it looks like we'll get a lot more info tomorrow.

Whaddaya mean???

all half the people on here do is bitch about him...you folks know who you are.

At least you Steve have been known to say something nice about Drew on occasion (you did it in your last post  Smile ).  There are some people here however who can't do anything but be negative.

I'm not surprised at all that Drew doesn't recommmend this site right now, because it seems like there are a few people here who haven't forgiven him simply for "not being Bob Barker".  I really hope my comments here will not cause this thread to dissolve into another "Drew Sucks/Bring Back Bob" thread, because there are more than enough of those around here already.

Sorry, that became a bit of a rant there  Embarassed

Folks you have my heartfelt apologies if I've offended you in any way.

..and with that I step down from the soapbox.

Seriously, though, that's pretty cool. If the numbers retain the same "font" as the old displays, but now they can add graphics to indicate a winner, and perhaps show ludicrous bids like "$15 million", that might be pretty neat.

They've gone LED, not LCD. How can LED lights add graphics to indicate the winner?

I'm not sure if anyone else is concerned...but that screen that Mike, Rich D. & Fingers are looking at kinda scares me. I REALLY hope they're not making one of the games go digital/computerized. I can honestly say that would be the last straw for me.

If it's an LED screen, it would function similarly to an LCD screen. Just a lot thinner, and more energy efficient.

Doh! I read it so quickly I didn't even notice that Marc said "LED" and not "LCD" screens. Though, arrays of LEDs can be used as screens (e.g. stadium "Jumbotrons", Organic LED televisions), in which case you could output anything you wanted like a normal TV screen.

So, just to clarify - have the old Sportstype displays just been given LED backlighting, or do we actual new screens made out of LEDs?

It looks to me like the old displays merely had their bulbs replaced with LEDs, and given a new paint job. I could be wrong, though...we'll have to wait to see it in action.

Or later today when Drew posts pics. Hopefully he takes pics from around the whole studio....and even after the taping as well.

IIRC from earlier in the season that cameras were banned by anyone, including the staff.  I wonder why all of a sudden Drew can take pictures of everthing?

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that whoever made that policy isn't there anymore.  Also, from the pictures we've been provided, it looks to me like they just made new readouts that display the same sportstype numbering, just with LED bulbs instead of whatever was there before.

We're not mad at Drew for "not being Bob Barker"

We are mad at Drew for doing a lazy job of hosting (and I could write paragraphs on that!).
