I also went with "Pyramid". I also liked "Password Plus/Super Password" clock sound and the Clock Game one.

The clock tick from Clark/Cullen's pyramid were the best! Not only did Donnymid fail to deliver on many levels but the winner's circle just didn't have the right mood without that sound.

I'm best familiar with Wheel's clock ticking sound. When they added music to it, however, it totally ruined the feel of suspense.

Which one were you were refering to?  If you're refering to the original, it was taken from a short-lived game show back in the mid-70's.  I forgot the name of the show, but it hosted Jim Lange and produced by Heatter-Quibley and aired on CBS.

Wow, no love for the WHEW! drum kit, huh?  Well, I'll speak up for it, though I have absolutely nothing against the Pyramid Clock.  The WHEW! drum kit works for me because it's urgent, doesn't interfere with the gameplay, it's fun to listen to, and it scores big for originality-it's not a beep, a tick, or a production music piece.

I voted for 'Other', as my new all-time favorite 'clock ticking' sound is the dramatic time tick-down, which was used when Ken Basin vied for the Million Dollar Question on 'WWTBAM'.  The ticks are loud, and it adds so much dramatic pressure on the contestant in the 'Hot Seat'.

I never heard of the "Whew" drum kit before! Anyways, I think the modern "Beat the clock" music, and the double dare "Obstacle course" music has to be the best way to use a countdown!

Grand_game, get thee over to YouTube :-).  There are quite a few "Whew!" clips up there which will let you hear the drum kit clock.

Any time the clock tick is a synth sound. I just LOVE those synth sounds on the game shows.
