I apologize if this was previously posted... but does anyone know or think that Freemantle may change back to the original theme used before Drew Carey? The new one is horrible. It is too low, and is not as dramatic as the original, especially for viewers who have watched since the 80's like myself.

Why would they? The theme they have works fine. No need to go back to the old (Not in Stereo) Version.

Given how much it cost to have the new theme made, I highly doubt they'd even consider going back to it.  Aside from that, the old theme is considered "Bob's Theme" now, versus "Drew's Theme."  Regardless of how fans feel about the new one, going back would only remind them of Bob Barker, and furthermore would convey the notion that the new theme wasn't as good as the old one like you said.

(I'm not saying it isn't better, but they want whatever they have on the air NOW to be the best that there is)

Mind you, they didn't even play Bob's theme for his guest appearance.  If that doesn't say that the old theme is done and gone, I don't know what does.

You know, I can remember that day (10/15/07) I was sitting on my couch preparing to hear the old Come on Down theme and the old main theme. When I heard them both I remember getting all mad and I said WTH. I love the old themes but now I actually love the new too. It's just as cool and it suits Drew. I hope he uses it and hosts the show for another 35 years.

Change is jarring, especially when you don't expect it.  I had the same reaction as you, and it took me a day or two before I got used to the new theme.

Why would they?

I believe NickM explained that to you quite clearly.

That said...no, I don't believe they will.  And that's a shame, because the new theme is nothing but a cheap imitation of the original one.

I kind of like the new theme, though.

I kind of like the new theme, though.

But what is there to like about it?  Steve put it aptly describing it as nothing more than a cheap imitation than the original.  So it may be in stereo.  So what?  All stereo means is two separate audio outputs of left and right as opposed to mono, which is just one output; and nobody's mixing their music between left and right as dramatically as the Beatles did, so what difference does it make?

Might I add the theme wasn't the only thing that seemed to become a cheap imitation once Bob retired.  I'd say the come on down vamp, Dig We Must, and the whole set were all make to look very much cheap imitations of the originals.

I haven't actively watched the show for almost a year now... because the show is no longer fun for me to watch.

How anyone is still enjoying the show is beyond me.

But what is there to like about it?

I like the fact that it's updated. It sounds like the original, but there are little differences that makes the theme more fresh. For instance, in the CoD music, they added flute in the "sliding-down" riff (dunno how else to describe it), which I believe makes a great sound.

In a nutshell, what I like about the theme is the fact that it's new, but it still sounds like the old one.

Rich Fields Thanks Kirsten. I pick out and supply all of my own clothing. That light gray suit is hard to pair with shirts and ties... but I think the lavender shirt and purple patterned tie pulled it all together. :

The new theme sounds just like the old one...with everything that was good about the old one removed. It lacks that ummph that was powerful and helped celebrate a win, and it isn't as good at sounding "sad" after a loss. The first few notes are utterly weak compared to the way the older theme "takes off" at the beginning. To me, the new theme sounds like a cheap imitation of the original, one they might use on sitcoms so it won't be an exact copy of the original.

I completely agree. There's nothing good about the new theme - it sounds tinny and lacks real instrumentation. Same with the new "Walking." They're both poorly done knockoffs. And yeah, it really does lack the versatility to sound "sad" after a loss and "celebrate" a win. It may be recognizable to some as "Drew's theme" as opposed to "Bob's theme," but to me, it's just "a badly done version of Bob's theme."

On the other though, I have to say that I like the new Dig We Must. It sounds pretty good.

I find it ironic how the show tries to mix up the prizes and offer "cool" things like over-stuffed trips and impossible to price items to make the show less "predictable." Yet, the same things happen every single time a show airs.

Just what on the show today isn't a cheap imitation of the original?

I hope the current theme is in the new Price Is Right 2010 videogame next month.  And the new losing horns too.

The only one I'm trying to get over is the horns. Those I don't think needed to be changed. They should've just left those alone. Dig We Must to me sounds. It sounds loud (could be just me), it's got more flavor so to speak.
