Apparently the Phone-A-Freind  lifeline is being removed. Have a look at this:

Without reading the article, I can understand why: the "phone-a-friend" concept usually became "phone-a-friend-who-can-type-fast-into-google".

Another change that's going to kill this show faster. I don't think Millionaire is going to be recognizable in a few years (or perhaps months) if they keep changing everything. Only things familiar will be Meredith & the set..and maybe the music, unless they change that too. :S

Another guarantee from the WWTBAM powers that be that the million dollars will never be won again.

Even with the advent of more people having access to a higher-speed internet connection (since most people likely had dial-up in the late '90's), someone could still have say, an encyclopedia at their house or on CD-ROM and look up information for the player.  I am surprised that they didn't scrap Phone-a-Friend even then since information could have been obtained by other means.

Also keep in mind that Phone-A-Friend is a good deal of hassle for them to deal with on the production end...this will cut not just the prize budget, but production costs as well.

Link didn't work.  Can you fix it please?  Thanks.
I agree with earlier poster that setting up the phone-friends must take a lot of time and effort for the production team.

If the Friend in question lives in the New York area or is visiting with the contestant, maybe they should bring him/her to the studios and place him/her in a soundproof box with no encyclopedias or Google.

Well and if you think about it they have "Ask the Expert" which is practically the same thing as Phone-a-Friend. But it's the same situation too because the Expert's are using Skype via their home computer. so they do have quick access to google or whatever they use.

I so agree with u 100 percent heelsrule1988 Millionaire was so better Under regis in primetime.

I don't know why they keep messing up Millionaire the foreign versions are still loyal to the format i'll just watch the British version to get my Millionaire fix.

I wouldn't be surprised if usa Millionaire ends up using that hot seat format next season.

Yes, the link is not working. But it is because the site is not working. I have a link to the Buzzerblog site on my computer and was able to get to it last evening but not this morning.

====================

AND....I was actually at a taping of WWTBAM yesterday. I had not heard the news before I was arrived so it took me by surprise when after the contestant had used one lifeline that the host said "You have two lifelines remaining." I had to look closely at the screen the next time and saw that lifeline was gone. In the 3 shows I saw the contestants did not do all that well. It was obvious to me that they had no intention of giving anyone $1M.

AND...yes, I said "host" instead of saying "Meredith". There was a guest host. I am not sure if telling you who it is would be considered a spoiler or not, so if y'all want to know, I'll tell you.

Out with it--who is it?  Are they letting Regis guest-host the daytime show now?
