Too bad I had to work, I missed the show.  And I can't watch it on CBS.com, even on proxy (it still detects me as not being American).  So if anyone can help me out, that would be great

I'm conflicted. When they do these crazy, over-the-top themed episodes of The Price is Right, like Halloween and April Fools, they succeed spectacularly. It doesn't at all feel like an episode of TPiR, since the episode is so full of strobe lights and sound effects and ghost wipes that the gimmicks overpower the game, but it is, without a doubt, a really good Halloween episode.

I mean, even during the opening, it felt really foreign to me. People were being called to come on down, but it all felt oddly unfamiliar. But that's good, because they were going for Halloween antics, so even though there was that slight feeling I was watching a completely different version of TPiR for the entire hour, it's okay because it was Halloween. I don't want to be a downer, because I appreciate all of the things they did for the holiday, but... I guess what I'm getting at is, I wish they could understand how to do an everyday episode of TPiR as well as they know how to do these unordinary episodes of the show. They're great at taking the focus off of the game, but they need to learn how to make the game itself good.

As for individual game observations...

I didn't even notice the doll on the waverunner until the shot of the rangefinder moving up the scale, that's how much sensory overload there was in that prize description.

I can only assume that was the highest on the scale the price has ever been in Range Game. Why have the producers become so insistent on shouting to the world, "We don't want anybody to win on this show! Ever!"

Although to be fair, Double Prices and Cliff Hangers were both winnable, even with an expensive cauldron. Why they were willing to give away a $17,000 car in Cliff Hangers but not a $9,000 waverunner in Range Game, I don't know.

I also don't know why Plinko was set up so that a sane person would only win the first two additional chips. Do they not realize that even if the contestant gets all five chips, they're not actually going to win $50,000?

The wide shot of Plinko being revealed worked a lot better this time. I think it was because Rich DiPirro stayed on the shot longer.

I don't know what to say about those showcase bids. You can't blame the show for that, but still... what were Loretta and Derek thinking??? To bid... when you... I'm speechless. What can one say?

I like that they made a special Halloween version of the theme song, but it was nearly impossible to hear. Even during the credits, when there was no reason not to turn it up, it got nearly completely drowned out by the applause and all of the sound effects.

And because I do want to end on a positive note, all of the decorations and costumes were fantastic. From the fog machines to the coffin-shaped showcase podiums to the orange and black turntable squares at the end, they did a great job making the place look Halloweeny.

Uh...Strikes was played last Friday...

Maybe lance99 was referring to Golden Road? Unless they've retired it because of their hatred of this website?

Triple Play:  FINALLY, after over a year!  Too bad she lost.
Range Game:  No chance.
Grocery Game:  No dice.  He knew that he was going over.
Double Prices:  She needs to do her math!  TWO motorcycles + EVEN number price = GUARANTEE WIN!
Cliffhangers: $17 for the last prize?!!  FUMBLE!
Plinko:  He should've worn a "Mighty Mouse" costume because he SAVED the day winning $10,100!
Showcases:  THIS IS NOT THE 1970'S!!!  At least neither of them went over.

Drew as "The Yodely Guy" was awesome.  Rich's outfit was pretty good, too.  But my favorite for the models was definitely Amber's Range Game costume.  With the range finder actually moving on her costume put the icing on the cake for me.  At least no one from Union 33 had to actually move the finder for her.  For the contestants, my favorite had to be Dylan's Wolverine Costume.

Triple Play:  Great to see an old friend back!

Range Game:  Heck, if she left the range finder go all the way up she would've won.  Is it me or are they now positioning the range finder to where there is only a $133 range to begin with until it moves completely on the scale.

Grocery Game:  Scott, once again, is on the ball for themes.  I did like how they redid the font on the price tags for this episode.

SCSD #1:  A rarity with a 3-way tie.  Drew did make a great point, though.  What would've happened if that one contestant did actually use her second spin, instead of deciding to stay.

Double Prices:  Agree with Cartboy, wholeheartedly.

Cliff Hangers:  Love the way they redid the background.  But a $17 Cauldron?  That is how much you could buy it at Wal-Mart.  But for the first time, and it was probably because of the Halloween show, the Yodely Guy yelled when he fell.  They also have positioned him somewhat off of his mark.

Plinko:  One chip can make a difference between a shut-out and a win.

Showcases:  Okay, I can somewhat understand if someone bid $4,200 if they think their opponent has gone over, but not for their actual bid.  Was that guy bidding on a Chevrolet HHR or a Chevrolet Vega?  I guess for those trips she and a guest would be going on a round trip by Greyhound Bus to Charlotte and Salem and a kayak to London.  When they got there, they would be staying at luxurious Motel 6.  They would even include a rental moped!  Wow!  That would be a heck of a showcase right there!

Just a small comment here, as to the theme, am I the only one that noticed that the main theme part of the music sounded like the midi version of the song?

What an amazing show!!!!  Too bad it didn't have the gameplay to match.

Brilliant costumes, both on stage and in the audience.  Loved the Barker bookends in the front row (both with gray hair and skinny mics) and Yodely Girl in the second row (look for her sitting next to the guy in the Sixers jersey).  I thought Drew's lederhosen was a little too elaborate, but I won't argue since it was done by professionals (who even made the credits at the end of the show!)

The losing screams were cute, but IMO, they would have been better if accompanied by the losing horns (or a losing organ chord, as the case may be).  The scream that accompanied the Cliffy crash was an especially nice touch.

Speaking of Cliffy, yes, $50 for a cauldron is a bit much, but that's still no excuse for guessing $17 on the final item.  Tsk-Tsk!! :-x

Equally pathetic were the Showcase bids, but I'm not going to waste my breath on those debacles right now.

I would have liked to see some cobwebs on the display panels in Contestants' Row, but now I'm just being nitpicky.

And finally...Triple Play IS ALIVE!!!!  ::thunder::

(Note to Self:  I gots to get me a voice distorter STAT.)

Drew's lederhosen aside
To correct the record, he had bundhosen.  Lederhosen is shorts, bundhosen is more of a capri pant (like Hans).
They can be close at the top, too.

I know I usually don't post on the show recap, but this show was awesome (except for the contestants).  The set was great and the costumes made the show even better.  Plus, for the first time ever, I got to see my two favorite games played in the same show- Cliff Hangers and Plinko- something I've been waiting for for a long time!  The showcases were neat, but the bids were terrible.  All in all, good effort by the cast and crew!

However, the costume that was the most lame was Rich's big wheel outfit. ...Couldn't they have thought up something better for him.

I felt bad for him because he's the only person who has to sit down...and that looked impossible to sit in!
I apologise in advance.

Good to see the return of Triple Play after a LONG absence.  I noticed that Drew was wearing a yodeler's outfit and Rachel was dressed as a Plinko Chip. Nice coincidence that both games were played on this show!
