No offense to Rich, who has really come into his own on the show, but I was always rooting for Randy. He knew how to inject such excitement with his announcing.

I gotta say, knowing Randy was closer than I thought at the time makes me a little more bitter he didn't get the nod.

What's in a name? 

I didn't know Randy West - I read he was in the running as announcer for TPiR after Rod died. 

I looked him up on the internet and discovered a porn star by the same name.

Do you think he may have lost the job because he has the same name as a pron star?

I know Janice and Dian did photo spreads for Playboy, but maybe TPiR wanted to steer clear of any connection to porn?

Nonsense.

I always figured Rich got hired because he has this sort of inexplicable younger sound in his voice, and I thought that the staff wanted that in their next announcer, so they chose him over a more experienced, "classic"-style announcer like Randy West. He's a good announcer, but his voice is a little over the top if you ask me.
