Money Game question
« on: May 15, 2006, 04:51:33 PM »
When Money Game was first played on Center Stage, the lights in the studio would go dim during its playing. Around when did they stop doing this? Shame that they did, I thought it was one of the coolest aspects of the game, besides the special camera shot it got when the car was revealed.

By the end of the syndie nighttime run in 1980, they were no longer doing that, but I have no idea if that is near or far from when they stopped dimming the lights.
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

I don't know if I ever saw an episode where they dimmed the lights, but I do know I miss the old car reveal they used when Money Game was played out on stage.. That was cool.

I don't recall, what was so special about the reveal on Money Game. I remember it being played on stage but can't think of the way the car was shown.

The reveal had a long shot of the stage...it looked really neat, because the Giant Price Tag sort of formed a wall on the left that ran right up to the left edge of Door #3.  You also got to see the Big Doors opening from quite a ways back.

ah yes it's coming back to me now, they did for sure dim the lights. Now, video or screen caps of that would be rare but awesome!

Try www.j-shea.com.  One of his clips is from the first act of the final '70s nighttime show, which includes a complete Money Game reveal.
