Finally, we get a decent, normal show.

Dice Game was really great. Staging aside, I think it makes a really good first game.

Cliff Hangers... well, nice win, but that certainly was one bizarre prize package.

Nice to see a popcorn cart in Most Expensive - they seem to have been shying away from things like popcorn carts, floor clocks, etc., and it's nice when they do show up occasionally.

Ten Chances was just horrible. That set-up was not difficult, and there was no excuse for writing prices in the $200s. Like others have said, Bob would have had a conniption. And I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the reveal for this game simply does not work without Sam. The Line 'em Up cue itself isn't a bad cue... it just doesn't work in Ten Chances.

The Freeze Frame French bit... eh, it wasn't horrible. But it certainly wasn't good, either.

I was really expecting a double overbid today; very surprising. Those arcade games must have been very expensive.

I find it ironic how the show tries to mix up the prizes and offer "cool" things like over-stuffed trips and impossible to price items to make the show less "predictable." Yet, the same things happen every single time a show airs.

It was a really good show today.  Good prizes, good games, and excellent showcases.  And not too many trips.

I actually kinda liked the French bit with the Freeze Frame trip. Rachel's reaction reminded me of her acting in a Showcase skit - something we seldom see these days.

Some of my favorite games were played today, including Ten Chances, Dice Game, and Cliff Hangers - and Yodely Guy survives this time!

The French introduction to the 6th IUFB/pricing game and indeed that entire segment was eerily reminiscent of the worst of Season 37. Having Rich and Drew banter in French is not any better than having them banter in English. That segment was just bizarre today. However, what a show otherwise. $11,000, a great bid on a huge game room showcase that was not meant to be won, 4 wins...about the only other thing I can really complain about is 10C, and hey, that at least showed up. Drew was relatively on his game, and it was nice to get a bit of a reprieve from the forced losses we've seen of late. Now let's keep this momentum going into tomorrow.

Timings:
Dice Game (4.5) - 4:06
Cliff Hangers (4.5) - 4:25
Most Expensive (3.5) - 3:13
Pick A Pair (4.5) - 4:33
10 Chances (6) - 6:16
Freeze Frame (4) - 3:10
Total (27): 25:43

How does everyone feel about the prize package in Cliff Hangers?  I gave my brother car washes for Christmas.  I drove down to my local place, forked over 50 bucks, and they gave me a book of coupons.  And meals for a year?  I bet that is a real nice gift, but it just seems.....small.

I guess it is something different.  And I'd rather see it in Cliffy, as opposed to making someone try to price it in the showcases.

It's not something that would be getting offered if I were in charge...but yes, at least they had the sense to offer it in Cliff Hangers, as opposed to that ridiculous, unpriceable thing they had in Pick-a-Number on Tuesday.

I think that introducing the trip to Montréal in French could have worked if somebody had bothered to write out the French phonetically for Rich since he obviously doesn't speak the language. For somebody who went to a bilingual high school (here in the US) it was downright painful and I bet it didn't win a lot of votes in Canada either.

Although when I saw the French language tapes in the IUFB I said "oh look, now they'll offer a trip to Barcelona." This is of course after Sushi led to San Francisco.

Steve and I were saying how badly Ten Chances was played today, but on the other hand, we also said how nice it was to be able to complain about how a contestant played rather than how a game was setup or hosted. Would Bob have made a bigger deal about it? Yeah, and I can see him saying his classic "Audience! HELP HER!" somewhere around chance six. Pick-a-Pair was just unlucky, too.

I agree that the short description for the expensive water-shooting arcade game in the showcase made it seem fairly insignificant, but I suppose if the prize isn't sponsored, it's not sponsored?

Great to see the majority of the PGs won for a change!  The setup looked like it provided a good chance for a Perfect Show, but oh well.

The entire first half was everything I could have hoped for.  Bizarre Cliff Hangers prize, though.

Two tough losses, and Ten Chances was a lost cause.  The audience chanting the numbers was kinda funny.  (And count me in the "Bring back Sam!" crowd, too.)

Darwin deserves a place in the One-Bid Hall of Shame.  Worst bidder I've seen in a long time.

Rich's French spiel was awkward, but Rachel's expression made it worth it for me.

Exactly how much do arcade games cost these days?

A lot. Arcade games and pinball machines have always been mega-expensive. My dad bought a few pinball machines, used, about 10 years ago for nearly $2K/each. A new one is going to set you back at least $5-7K, especially considering there is only one pinball manufacturer left in the entire world (Stern Pinball).

Arcade games are considerably more expensive than pinball machines, especially if they have moving parts. I remember when we bought our first pinball machine, the place we bought it from also sold used arcade machines, and a very old Mortal Kombat machine, covered in nicotine, ran close to $5,000.

4 out of 6 today. Certainly a lot better than the last few shows. However, we once again got someone who failed to understand the zero rule in Ten Chances. I really wish these people would learn that all the prices for this game usually end in zero.
I agree.  They....are....STOOOOOOPID!!!!!   Back to kindergarden they go.

I thought it was strange that Drew didn't play up the fact that the show had a perfect first half.

But of course, once I realized that stating that the show had a perfect streak would draw attention to all of the other shows of the season that had nothing of the sort. :( :\

Sometimes an upbeat attitude is everything. Other times, nothing beats contestants winning pricing games.
