YOUR Top 10 Game Shows!
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:46:54 PM »
I know that GSN's 50 Greatest did a great injustice to game show fans, (and I know this is just a little late), but I thought it would be a neat idea if you'd put down your Top 10 Game Shows from 1 being your favorite to 10, and if you want, a little description of why you like the show.

Here's mine:

1. The Price is Right (The longevity, The tradition, Johnny Olsen "The Great")
2. Match Game 70's (Gene, the out-of control panel, and how could this not be in a top 10 list?)
3. Wheel of Fortune (It's classic game show period! The wheel is timeless)
4. Jeopardy! (The 80's and 90's was awesome with the "original" video wall!)
5. Let's Make a Deal (Want the box or the curtain?  The game that made desicion making painful!)
6. Press Your Luck (The Whammy, Big bucks, Big bucks, No Whammies and...STOP!)
7. To Tell The Truth (MY favorite Panel game.  "Will the real ____ PLease stand up?)
8. What's My Line? (This is my second favorite panel game.  I loved the "Sign-in Please" part)
9. $25/100,000 Pyramid (This is one of Bob Stewart's greatest creations, and one of my personal favorites!)
10. Password *all versions* (My favorite word-association game.  IMO, it got better as the years progressed.  It is simply a classic.)

Ok, there's my 10.  WHat's yours?

Here I go...

1. The Price is Right-The first game show I ever watched, Bob is one of the greatest game show hosts ever.
2. Blockbusters-Great quiz show with a thing for hexagons.  The Cullen version was good, but I liked Rafferty's better.
3. Body Language-A great game show that used charades as its premise, very unique.
4. Match Game (1973-1982; 1990-1991)-Gene Rayburn is one of the best personalities of game shows.  The panel of celebrities was hilarious.  The Ross Shafer version was not that bad, save for the Match-Up! segments. (couldn't they have just added a 3rd round instead?)
5. Press Your Luck-Exciting gameplay, the famous phrase "Big Bucks, no whammies!".  Memorable contestants the show had.
6. Card Sharks-I loved the use of playing cards and the poll questions.  The NBC version was good, but I like the CBS and first syndicated versions better-especially when the car game was added.
7. Now You See It- A great quiz show that had a unique concept of a jumble of letters with answers in them.  Both runs were good, but I prefer the 1989 version myself.
8. The $10/$20/$25/$50/$100,000 Pyramid-Great contestants, and exciting winners circles' throughout the run.
9. Password-The quintessential word game, I especially loved the Password Plus and Super Password versions.
10. Family Feud-The hilarious answers given by contestants, the great hosts Richard Dawson and Ray Combs.

1. The Price Is Right -- 34+ years on TV.  Enough said.
2. Jeopardy! -- The quintessential quiz game.
3. Match Game -- So funny, you'll laugh your ______ off!
4. Press Your Luck -- Can't go wrong with the ultra-cool gameboard and the tag team of Tomarken and Roddy.
5. Family Feud -- Richard Dawson couldn't keep his lips off the ladies in this fast-paced MG spinoff.
6. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? -- UK import ushered in the return of game shows in 1999.  Impeccably hosted by Chris Tarrant, Regis Philbin, and Meredith Vieira.
7. Wheel of Fortune -- Would've ranked higher if they had never gotten rid of the shopping portion of the show.  Gotta love those ceramic dalmatians!
8. Sale of the Century -- The ultimate big-money game show of the '80s.  Jim Perry's rapid-fire questioning was flawless.
9. Password -- Precursor to Pyramid, Chain Reaction, Go, and other word association game shows.  The "Password puzzles" in the '70s and '80s made the show even better.
10. Finders Keepers -- Cash and prizes were won simply by trashing the house.  My favorite game show as a kid.
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

I'm not sure I could do a Top 10, but I will say this... anyone who doesn't put Price at #1 deserves an automatic trip to Banville. ;-)

FieldsFan336 presents...
"My Top 10 Game Shows"!!!

1. The Price is Right (the first game show I ever knew, "Come on Down" has been in my vocabulary since the age of 2.  And I watch it these days mostly to see Bob, play along with the games...and to hear Rich's energetic voice!)
2. Press Your Luck (I don't know why, but I always cheered for the Whammies)
3. Hollywood Squares: 1998 version (come on, who can't ever forget "YOU FOOL" from 1999?)
4. Deal or No Deal (aside from the ex-Beauties and Diva wannabes, I love the suspense of the show)
5. Match Game (even though I wasn't born when it started, I like watching the late 70s episodes on GSN.  Especially the Dumb Dora questions)
6. Lingo (mainly because of the classic April Fool's episode from 2003.  That was the best!)
7. Fun House (where else can you win prizes and stuff by getting messy?)
8. Jeopardy (it challenges my mind, plus I love it when the celebrities play)
9. Let's Make a Deal (again I wasn't born when it aired, but thanks to GSN I developed a liking for it.  The zonks were always funny)
10. The $100,000 Pyramid (every time the WC round was played, I love coming up with different clues to the subjects)

Here's my top ten:

1. "The Price is Right"
2. "Wheel of Fortune"
3. "Press Your Luck"
4. "Jeopardy!"
5. "Now You See It! (1989)"--
Personally, I thought Chuck Henry was a VERY good host.
6. "Double Dare (1989-1993)"
7. "Card Sharks"
8. "Scrabble"
9. "Family Feud"
10. "American Gladiators"

I just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your love, affection and loyalty to me, drew, the models and.... The Price is Right....thank you for being such a "Loyal Friend & True". -Rich Fields (in an e-mail sent to me on 3/17/2010)

I support The Price is Right...even if nobody I know likes Drew Carey.
