What if you were the set designer?

I've posted several
What If's
in the past and I thought of this one last night.
I thought if I was the set designer I would maybe atempt to bring back the brown set. I know to some of you that sounds like too much, but I think it would bring back a different feel to the set. The only thing that would need changing are the colors. I would paint Door #1 orange; Door #2 yellow; Door #3 red; the borders of the doors, brown; the squares on the turntable, yellow with red borders; the turning panel, yellow with a red border; the wall borders of the turntable, brown; the stairs, red; the giant price tag, red; contestants row displays, yellow, light green, orange, red; contestants row borders, brownish-orange; Door #4, orange; the showcase podiums, top winner, red; runner up, yellow.
I'm sure one of you will send me to the website where I hit the button and hear the losing horns, but this is just an idea. Some of you might have some better ideas.

I dunno the link to the site you're referring to, but if I did I'd surely send you there. The brown set existed because in the 1970s, orange was the color. THE color. It was what all the other colors judged themselves by.
Today's audiences sould revolt if you gave them the brown set as you describe it. We live in the post-Technicolor world, and millions of colors (not simply variants of the colors orange and brown) are what we want. Bright, colorful, cheery. Not drab and orange-brown. Sorry, but this idea is just "out there."
If I were set designer, I'd bring back the season 32 set (starburst doors, pink-purple-blue turntable) so fast it would make your head spin. I'd keep some version of Door #4, but the pastel audience curtains would be history. LED contestants' row might be worth holding onto as well. Oh, and the Showcase podiums would have the description on top and the bid on the bottom (where they're supposed to be).

I'd want the '92-'96 set. It felt somewhat updated, yet still felt classic.

Now I was always kinda partial to the "sharper" edges on the door designs that came around in 1996, myself, plus the flag-and-balloon designs were pretty snazzy too. (But if I could, I'd also change the turntable carpet back to green from red). I'm with you on the "classic but updated" part though, most definitely; still retaining the original look and feel of the old show, but with more modern colors to get with the times.

I'd have the season 29-30 turntable w/ the pre-season 25 doors. I just loved the unpadded turntable. That would be my design.

The current set is far and away the best that your TPIR has ever had, in my opinion.

I'll agree with brosa and say that the current set (season 38) is beautiful and I love it! I've seen the set throughout the years and I finally feel like the set has come to it's apex. This set (and the Drew MDS set) has a unique and modern feel that is so simple but gratifying to look at. It drops the tired feeling of the original set(s) and brings modernity to it without alienating the basic premise of 3 doors, a turntable, and contestants row.
I would change one thing though: I loved the purple wheel. Bring it back!

I agree with your point on the current set being modern, but I strongly disagree on your point about the original sets being "tired looking". Granted the old brown set would look hideous today, but the sets of the '80's, '90's and those up to season 36 exuded class, and at least they weren't too busy looking like the geometrically challenged sets we've seen the last couple of years. The current set is certainly not that simple to look at in my opinion.

I honestly would go back to the 2003-2007 set. It retained the classic shape, but modernized the colors. The older sets wouldn't really work well anymore.

PLEASE tell me you're making an exception for the outlandish rainbow-wheel doors that appeared in season 35. They looked simply awful and...WAY too much.

I sure am! The starburst doors were
much
better than the rainbow doors.
Don't get me wrong, the rainbow doors were all right. The starburst doors were much better.

If I was designing the set I would rig up something that might fall on the host so we could get a new one!
