January 4, 1965 (daytime show)
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:06:57 PM »
This recap is from an episode on the trading circuit that had been dated from being a 1964 telecast. However, two pieces of evidence point out that it is from January 4, 1965. First, Arthur Treacher, the celebrity guest, says he used to watch the show but hasn't been getting up recently at 11:30. Price moved to 11:30 on December 28, 1964. Second, the returning champion, Paul Cain, made his last appearance on Christmas Day--the show hosted a special panel of contestants the week after Christmas.

Bill comes out to applause, and chats with this week's celebrity player, Arthur Treacher. In the 60s, Arthur was Merv Griffin's second banana on the Merv Griffin Show.

* - The returning champ, back for his second appearance, is Paul Cain, a teacher from Sulphur Springs TX. Paul won $1259 in his previous appearance.

* - Rose Zack, from Detroit MI, is the sweepstakes winner from last week.

* - Emily Banko is a housewife from Riverhead N Y.

As Arthur draws four names from the card hopper (each card the name of a studio audience member--whatever Arthur wins goes to the person drawn for that item). All players receiver the Price Is Right home game (the card game "Bid It Right")

First name Arthur draws: William Harris of Cincinnati OH. First item: The Cub Cadet tractor/snowblower from International Harvester. Powered by a 7-hp air-cooled engine with 3-speed transmission. Price authority: International Harvester, Indianapolis, Indiana.

At this point, the new home sweepstakes is supposed to be announced, but the kinescope that had made the rounds had it cut out. It did have a Chevrolet Corvair Monza as a prize.

Again to make a correction spotted too late to take care of first time around: On the second line of bidding during the final item (the piano), Mrs. Banko's bid should have been 300 and Arthur Treacher's should have been 350.
