Maybe they'll place them on higher platforms and use them as car backdrops.

Sorry I missed it!

Campus was my problem today.

Also posting here so I could tell Kitch you forgot to put MONEY GAME on the Money Game header for Game 4.

SEASON 39 IS HERE! :)

J.D. Roberto.....I'm not too crazy about him.

But, I LOVE the new light border!!! Gold is back!

No Plinko!!!

Pay the Rent isn't that bad of a game. Once you understand it that is.

Push Over was exceptionally simple!

Well, at least we had outright wins this year. :) No tech wins either.  :oldlol:

(If they found a use for those spinning dollar signs somewhere on the set, I wouldn't mind. They're pretty neat.)

I'm gonna have to agree with that one. 3StrikesFan had a good idea of using them for a car backdrop.

I knew Rebecca should have quit with the $10K, as there was no way the cat food was over $11.48.  Compdude does a good job of showing how the game should be played to win the grand prize; unfortunately, I don't see many contestants using this strategy.  On the other hand, almost anyone can win $10K every time playing the way Rebecca did.  A general rule of thumb is that if you have a big jump in totals between any two levels, you should stop at the $10K level.

I'll also echo Wayoshi's comment that the rest of the lineup was very poor -- three quickies and two fast car games.

Pay the Rent is going to require some serious calculation. It is a big puzzle game, trying to figure out how to arrange the items so that you have all the levels in the right order.

The most important thing: the least expensive item DOES NOT GO ON THE BOTTOM!!!

Not necessarily.. all depends how they want to set it up.

Off on another tangent tho.. why after 38 years, did they put a small green dollar sign on the stage floor? Obviously it's Drew's mark, but why not tape the marks like they have since the show began?

Wow, Season 39! Holy Crap!

I really enjoyed this episode.

I love the new light border. It reminds me of the old one, and I noticed the lights chase the opposite way now.

I loved Pay the Rent, especially the reaveal! The rules aren't too hard to understand, but I have a feeling most contestants will just order the products from least to greatest.

As for JD, I thought he sounded a bit nasally. I'm looking forward to hearing Jeff give it a try.

Here it comes!  Season 39!!!

Pay The Rent: OH MY GOD THAT WAS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE OPENING I'VE EVER SEEN.  My first thought was to put the corn in the mailbox too.  My immediate reaction when she lost was "WHAT THE HELL THIS IS UNWINNABLE!??!?!(Shift+One)(Shift+Slash)!", however upon further investigation, it seems it IS winnable.
EDIT: Upon even further investigation, it wasn't winnable.  No possible combination of amounts would have been able to combine to less than $7.30.

Lucky Seven: $24,23_... I called a lowball for the fourth number.

Push Over: Agreed, Kitch.  Easiest. Setup. Ever.

Most Expen$ive: Evil setup, that hot tub was HUGE bait.

Money Game: Nothing much to report here, except that they have kept the tradition of having the season number as a choice on the board.  And it's still not part of the price.

Squeeze Play: Evil setup again.  My thought was the second 7.

Showcases: $40,039//$71,039... it's a shame that school prevented me from playing.  I'd actually love to have that pool table.

Oh, and did anyone catch Jeff Davis sitting in the audience?  He was on the stage right side, and was really prominent during the 5th calldown.

Add me to the list who loves the new light border.   That was very nice.

PtR - Well, while winner $100,000 seems very unlikely, winning $10,000 should be a slam dunk, most of the time.   My problem with this game will be how much they push the contestant to make a decision.   Time will tell.

PushOver was exceptionally easy as was Money Game, assuming you know el cheapo.

It took a moment, but I finally figured the PtR puzzle.

Attic: Cat Food (7.30)
Second Floor: Cleaner and Corn (5.49 + 1.49 = 6.98)
First Floor: Pizza and Cinnamon (3.49 + 2.98 = 6.47)
Mailbox: Shampoo (5.99)

This game is going to be REALLY HARD. But for $100,000, it should be.

Opening:  I like the new light border and the new logo.  I can actually see this light border.
Pay The Rent:  Neat game!  Too bad Rebecca didn't win the $100,000.
Most Expensive:  I thought for sure Cheryl was gonna win! 8-O
Showcases:  Too bad that Porsche wasn't won.

Not too bad overall, but IMHO, I've seen better season premieres.

“Let’s offer a huge prize that we can’t possibly afford to give away and then make it completely impossible to win”. That seems to be the M.O. of the powers that be at TPIR these days. Pay the Rent has been discussed to death already in Talk Is Right, but today’s playing is a textbook example of how counterintuitive the game is. The same approach that would have won the contestant $10,000 would almost certainly lose anyone $100,000. By making the game intentionally deceptive, they guarantee that they will never actually have to give the money away. The same thing happened in the showcase today. Porsche Boxters are only worth about $55,000 fully loaded. This means that in order for that showcase to breach near 80, they had to include a near $25,000 entertainment center/TV package. No one would possibly guess that a TV package would cost that much so then again they guarantee they don’t have to give away the Porsche. It is getting really irritating to see this so blatantly on display again in the beginning of season 39.

That being said, I enjoy the introduction to Pay The Rent and the prop a lot, and the game is certainly a little suspenseful to watch. It times out a bit long though (it appears to be a 7 minute game) so any time it shows up we should expect lots of quickies, which may get obnoxious if it’s frequently played and frequently lost.

Other than that this was a fairly enjoyable premiere – at least some games were won this year. J.D. is very nasally but overall not that annoying to listen to, and he is certainly better at ad-libbing than Rich was, which may be something they were looking for. Doesn’t look like the show will go all that much in the variety show direction based on today’s two shows , which is good to see. It just feels awkward to have a model say “sorry” after a pricing game is lost though.

Timings:
Pay The Rent (7) - 7:54
Lucky $even (4.5) - 3:57
Push Over (4) - 3:48
Most Expensive (3.5) - 3:13
Money Game (4.5) - 3:44
Squeeze Play (3.5) - 3:11
Total time (27.5): 25:47

Sure it was, IN fact, the contestant only had two mixed up

7.30 on top
5.49+1.49 = 6.98
3.49+2.48 = 6.47
5.99 on bottom

I noticed today during the pay the rent game, JD read the products name during the description of the products. Is the
going to be a permanent thing now or just during the announcer rotation?

Also during the commercials there were normal commercials not the 1-800 ones. I hope to see normal
commercials again.

Will the show be using classic cues during the games and prizes this season?

Why would these two things have anything to do with one another?
