This episode, airing six years to the day The Price Is Right premiered on NBC, was not screened during the Price run on what then was Game Show Network.

Bill Cullen comes out to applause and says the new sweepstakes starts on this show. The bargain hunters this week:

* Barbara Broce, a housewife from Durham N C, is the returning champion, having won $16,180 in her previous appearance.

* Joseph Day is a teacher from Wilburn MA.

* Sweepstakes winner Lilian Brown, is a mother of six and grandmother of 36, and is from Savannah GA.

* Thomas Linge is a supervisor from Wapinger Falls N Y.

Each of the contestants receives a gift pack from the makers of Wizard bathroom deodorant. First item is shown on stage as a small edifice. The roof and front are removed to show a dry heat sauna. similar to the type used in Finland. It measures 6x8 ft. and contanis a sauna dry heat stove. It is  furnished with a moisture-absorbant rug and can be custom fitted. Price authority: Cascade-Solinar

Mrs. Broce starts and is asked for an opening of at least $1000. Minimums are $100:

A new sweepstakes is shown. We get to see a rare shot of the Colonial Theater audience as June displays a mink coat from Alessandro Furs. It is trimmed in autumn haze. Also in the sweepstakes: Lanvin perfume by Arpege and a Schick portable hair dryer. As Bill plays with a wind-up toy monkey that rolls out dice from a drum, Don Pardo tells where viewers are to send their postcards:

Actual retail price: $1022.50, with Mr. Day the winner, and he hit the bonus bell. For this bonus, a table with bags of silver dollars--each the same weight--is rolled out as is a giant scale (think a giant version of the Balance Game scale on the current show). Mr. Day's wife of 16 days is brought out and stands on the left platform of the scale. The bottom of the platform is floored by a box (a similar box is under the right platform. Mr. Day takes a scak of silver dollars and tries to estimate in his head how much he thinks it might weight and then tells how many bags he can place on his platform without the side his wife is on rising. After some deliberation, he guesses four. He places each bag, one at a time, on his platform. After the fourth bag is placed, Mrs. Day's platform moves--but does not rise. The total cash prize Mr. Day wins as per the amount in each bag is $2040.

Final item: A diamond heart ring by Johnston Jewelers of the Waldorf-Astoria. The heart weights 5.5 karats and is embellished with two taperd baguette diamonds, each weighing .24 karats, bringing the total diamond weight to 5.29 karats. Price authority: Johnston Jewelers, New York.

This was a great precursor to the TPIR we know and love today!
