Video Game Prizes?
« on: November 02, 2010, 01:05:14 PM »
I watch those video game systems and some games offered on the show quite often and my question is:

Can the winner of the game get to choose which video game cartridges they want or does it have to be those that was shown on TV?

I believe it's what you see is what you get.

Especially when the prize copy mention x number of games. All games aren't the same price, so it would be a hassle to let the contestant pick, let's say, 5 games that would total the same amount as those shown...

Here is a question to add to it.

Let's say the prize includes a Nintendo Wii, and these five games:
-Mario Kart Wii
-Super Mario Galaxy 2
-Smash Bros Brawl
-Tetris Party Deluxe
-Pokemon Battle Revolution

I already own a Wii, Mario Kart, and Brawl. If I won this prize package can I jsut take the three games I don't own?

You should be able to forfeit whatever prizes you don't want; just say so when you're filling out paperwork after the show. But wouldn't it make more sense just to trade in whatever you don't want to Gamestop or someplace similar? An extra $350 in winnings shouldn't make THAT much of a difference added to your taxes. It should be easily offset by whatever you get for selling it. Unlike hot tubs or snowmobiles, video games should be relatively easy to sell.

Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

Consumer electronics have little to no resale value, even when brand new. Trading the games in at gamestop for a minimal trade in value would not be enough to offset the taxes that the contestant would have to pay on the games themselves. Selling them would possibly subject the contestant to an even greater tax liability.

this is very true. If you already had the games, perhaps you could arrange to have your prize autographed before it was sent for a keepsake, or use it as a gift.
Let's all take a deep breath.

You could also do your part in making the world a better place and put the copy of Brawl through a disc shredder!

You're just jealous because they put Lucario in Brawl instead of you. :)

To the benefit of Brawl players, I might add...  :P

I'm angry that Nintendo turned its back on the first-generation Pokemon fanbase, the ones that established the series for what it is today.

Nintendo OWED us a retooling of Mewtwo after the atrocity that was his programming in Melee, and failed to deliver.  It was pretty much the equivalent of the powers that be at TPiR telling you that the thing you've devoted the last eleven years of your life to doesn't matter any more.

Pikachu was the cutesy side.  Mewtwo was the bad-ass side.  Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, etc. did their job in getting the people in the 8-14 age bracket interested in the series.  The older players, however, stuck with the series mainly because of the first movie.
