What if they used a car as a prop on Cliff Hangers?
« on: November 06, 2010, 07:42:43 PM »
I know this may sound a bit silly, but on the occassions that Cliff Hangers is played for a car, wouldn't it be neat if instead of Hans the mountain climber, we would have Hans driving his car up the mountain! The front wheel would have the red arrow to show what step it's on. The car would be white and red to match the color of Hans, and just his head would be visibile in the car. Realistically, we have more cars falling off of cliffs than people nowadays, plus the "crashing" sound sounds more like a car crash than just a person. Hopefully, it should scare people driving on the Big Sur and other places.

Well you're certainly right about that.

I sat here for a good 20 minutes trying to think of what to say to this.  Here's what I came up with.  No.

If the prize was a dining room group, then what?  Would Hans be thrown off the cliff whilst eating dinner?

"A bit silly" is the understatement of the century.

What's the difference between a car and person?

It's a bit silly and unrealistic, but I don't think it's as ridiculously crazy as some of you are making it out to be. Definitely not the craziest thing suggested before.

You're right.  It's crazier even than that.

How? The OP just thought it would be a neat effect to see Hans in a car. I'm still not seeing how this is THAT ridiculous.

Though not a totally bad idea, it seems unecessary.

This is how I feel.

Really don't understand how people are treating it like the "stupidest idea of the century".

Personally, I see this the same way as the Money Game having different pictures for the type of car that the contestant is playing for.

Except for one obvious difference:  since the prop was designed to specifically BE a car, it was nice to be able to display a truck when that's what the prize really was.  It was more accurate to show a truck image than a car.

Here, there's a mountain climber.  The mountain climber doesn't refer to or imply any specific kind of prize...it's just a mountain climber that could be climbing the mountain for a car or new bedroom set or a trip or whatever they choose to.  There's nothing remotely inaccurate about showing a mountain climber no matter what the prize could be.
