Fun fact today:  Double Prices was played at door #3, possibly for the first time since October 1999.

Today was a boatload of fun!
They can be close at the top, too.

No offense Kitch but why the spoiler in the title?

I didn't see it as a spoiler since the show has already aired in both zones.

I will be mindful of that in the future, and denote DSWs in titles later.

It's the recap thread. It's the only place on the site where spoilers can be discussed, by rule. I don't believe Kitch did anything wrong.

Some people may read the recap instead of watching the show and don't want to be spoiled of the best part before they even read.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Anyways, Mike may have heavily been sick after 11:30, but he managed to make this week, at least, feel very successful despite only going 10-20.

Yea,

The Spoiler in the title bothered me a little bit.  But otherwise, Kitch, what a great job you are doing for us!  Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Yay! The return of Secret +

Boo! Down with Secret "X"! That's just a general comment, but today Drew explained it exceptionally poorly (with something like "Your job is to guess where the secret "X" is"), and Judy was practically clueless on how to play.

Yay! The spiffy red Challenger returns, and was won in an exciting fashion.

After a skunked first half in which Dice Game could've been won (too bad). We get a perfect second half (including a TTM win) and a DSW...HOW EXCITING!

It was a great way to end Christmas Week.

I knew she bid well. I didn't know she bid that well.

MERRY CHRISTMAS (or whatever religion and if not at all Happy December 25th!)

Some people may read the recap instead of watching the show and don't want to be spoiled of the best part before they even read.
(And as far as I am concerned the title of this section is "Summaries and Spoilers." If people are coming in, prepare to be spoiled in anyway. But I think the best idea is to leave the denotation of DSW's in titles until days after. That seems to be the only thing everyone can agree on.)

I knew she bid well. I didn't know she bid that well.

There was a bit of editing there where she was deciding on a bid, but it was excellent. I bid $36,000 on the entire showcase; I didn't have much of an idea of how much Acuras cost.

It was a good episode.  First DSW I've seen in a long time.  One question:  in Secret X, is it really necessary to poll the audience on where to place the X?  The audience has no better idea of where the hidden X is than the contestant does.

Judy was pretty much all over the board with her placement options (including in the red squares); some of the audience members in fact did know how to play the game, and knew that placing an "X" in the middle row is not a good idea. I think they were trying to help her out, and good for her.

What a fantastic way to start the Christmas Eve show -- with a five-minute-long game that you know two minutes in isn't going to be won!

That said, the rest of the show was actually pretty good.  Drew hosted it reasonably well, nothing stupid happened besides the appearance of the house in need of an arsonist, there was a perfect second half (when the hell's the last time we had a perfect half?), and the double showcase win was a hell of a nice surprise.

Since I don't feel like looking it up, does Pay the Rent's cheapest item usually go on the first floor or the second floor?

Did anyone find it weird that the Christmas tree was the fourth Item up for Bids?

Yay for Flip Flop being totally obvious!

It's always a nice surprise to see somebody win That's Too Much!.  Of course, the surprise would have been even nicer if Manuela hadn't given it away before she revealed the price.

Natasha didn't appear to have the slightest clue how Secret "X" works.

How long has it been since we've had so many three-out-of-sixers in one week?

So, a subtle hint that the Christmas Cards should go in the mailbox?  Or am I reading too much into it?

You know, even though it was probably unintentional on the staff's part, that's actually pretty clever.

No offense Kitch but why the spoiler in the title?

That was there from the get-go?

Yeah, that needs not to happen.  Not only is it a huge spoiler, but it also indicates that any show that isn't stickied doesn't have a DSW.  It shouldn't go in the thread title until at least the next day.  (And I see now that Kitch has already addressed this, but I still want to state it for the record, since no one else has brought up my second point.)

Anyways, Mike may have heavily been sick after 11:30, but he managed to make this week, at least, feel very successful despite only going 10-20.

Feeling successful is just as important as -- and maybe even more important than -- actual success.  If he's going to screw the budget (and there's no reason to think he's going to stop doing that), he's got to get better at making the show feel like it did this week all the time.

Clearly, the audience doesn't understand how PTR should be played.

The audience is not supposed to understand it.

Great end to the year.

Actually, there's still another episode next Thursday (which, oddly enough, is next Friday's show).

Fun fact today:  Double Prices was played at door #3, possibly for the first time since October 1999.

Who's to say that's the thread people were coming in to look at?  You can have something to do in this subforum without having seen the day's episode yet.

This is not necessarily true.  During the last 10 or 11 years that Roger was producing, every single time Secret "X" was played for a car, the X was on the bottom.

I think I know why too. After Price on Friday is college basketball. Maybe they figured in case its pre-empted in some areas on Friday, better air the New Year's Show on Thursday.

Usually as of now it goes on the first floor with the third-most or second-most expensive (the other of which is in the mailbox), with the second-cheapest and third-cheapest on the 2nd floor together. But those pairings can easily be switched around like today.

Basically there have been 4 combinations that work for the 100k (1-6, cheapest to most expensive):
5<(2+3)<(1+4)<6
5<(1+4)<(2+3)<6
4<(1+5)<(2+3)<6
4<(2+3)<(1+5)<6

When 1 is really cheap, generally meaning less than $1.00, 4 should go in the mailbox. How those pairings switch depends on a bunch of factors, very hard to pin down...
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

The initial setup looked odd (the DP prop was revealed nearly in full before starting), and the blue door backdrop gave it away.
