Wow, another DSW.  If these DSWs continue at this rate, Mikey might change the DSW range back to the old less than $100. :p

Hi Mikey,

I have a business proposition for you.  It's a book I wrote, titled "How to Prevent DSW's".  I'll sell the book to you for $100,000.  That's not a bad sum, considering that the budget must be far, far over that amount by now...  Preventing DSW's comes down to a 3-step process.  Don't believe me?  I'll even reveal 2.5 steps of my 3-step process.  You can purchase the remaining .5 step for the amount, and my book, mentioned above.

Step 1:
1.  Most contestants bid an exact multiple of $1000 (i.e.  $23,000, $42,000, $27,000....).  Interestingly, this sort of bid occurred in 8 of the DSW's this season.
2.  A DSW occurs when a contestant is within $250 of the ARP.  I know never Drew mentions this on the show, but it's true...
3.  Avoid having showcases whose ARP is....

Sorry Mikey, for the rest, you will have to fork over the cash for my book.   Trust me, my strategy works.....

I'm laughing my ass off at all these double showcase wins.  On top of the fact that it's awesome, I can just imagine Mike's jaw hitting the floor every time one comes along. :)
The funny thing about these DSWs is that TPTB can exert subtle controls if they're paying attention. It seems like Showcase bids are disproportionately round numbers. So the likelihood of a DSW could be increased by putting together Showcases that end in the digits -250 or less. All three of the recent DSWs have been by contestant whose bid ended in the digits -000.

ETA: I owe sideshowPA a Coke 'cause he managed to get his post on the thousands issue in first.

If the current staff is doing things like Roger did (and yes, I know it's a stretch to assume that), they don't worry about the prices of the showcases as they put them together.

Gotta watch out for that --500 too.  It doesn't happen as frequently, but still...

...really?  That just seems...odd.
They can be close at the top, too.

Absolute cringeworthy television during Cliffhangers! What year does she think we're in, 1972?
