Since she won't get to play, I will explain the "bobbie pin" thing earlier. It was for Metha. When she was called, she was right by Contestant's Row. But when she got up, her wig flew down over her face. It took almost a minute, including her friend's help, to get it out of her face. It didn't look like it was long enough to do that, but it did. It was weird.

I was hoping a brief but unnecessary (by 11am, Irene was past Jacksonville) local break-in at the top of the hour for Hurricane Irene was going to be it today. But NOOOOOO....... We get the national break-in at 11:26 so President Obama could say something by phone.

I ended up losing the fourth and fifth pricing games, the latter of which was for a car, so I can't justify giving a recap until the online airing goes live.

Well, this was sadly about as typical a Season 39 show as it gets - if you slept through this one or got pre-empted, you missed nothing. Hard 1/2 Off and TTM, and some not so bright contestants in Now...or Then and Line 'em Up. (The NOT playing that got pre-empted is just a weird weird playing - you'll see what I mean if you watch it on CBS.com. One of our more clueless contestants.) The Bonkers last-second win was a nice capper at least.

Speaking of NOT, that setup was just bizarre today. Has "then" ever been 25 years or more in the past before? And second, you'd think it's hard because 5/6 products were $1.19 or less and the one that wasn't was a THEN, but the two "then"s also are products that don't exist anymore, so not sure what Mike was going for there.

Temptation not appearing in today's lineup means the game went TWELVE WEEKS without getting played (almost as bad as Bee!), from 2/23 until 5/24.

Timings:
1/2 Off (5.5) - 4:21
Flip Flop (3.5) - 3:19
That's Too Much (5) - 4:09
Now...or Then (5) - 5:20
Line 'em Up (5.5) - 4:32
Bonkers (4.5)- 3:38
Total (29): 25:19

Maybe he was going for, "If you know these two products don't exist any more, you win the game."

Missed the show.  In Now or Then.  What year was "Then" for this playing?

A roughly 25 year Then date has to be a record in this game. Game was still lost though :)

She was lucky she didn't lose sooner than she did. She nearly sabotaged herself a product early, when she went for the 1st product on the bottom section instead of the last remaining one on the top. If she got that wrong, she'd already have lost right there as she wouldn't have been able to get 3 in a row at that point anywhere.

I too was surprised at the 25 year gap in Now or Then, anyone know what the longest back Then date was previous to this?

-Usual crap in Halfy, although the money wasn't in an extreme for once with both 1/16 left.
-Flippy is amazing in that Mike is explicitly setting it easy or hard all the time, really no in-between.
-Only thing different about this TTM is all the ranges were tight. Whatever, this game has really gone to hell, even more than L7...
-I don't know what the heck was going on in Notty, we really had to go back to 1986 to force three <1.00?? Heli also made a bad assumption on the rolls, but really, that wasn't going to be won except by a few of us.
-Liney was so stupid, and I know dumb losses occur throughout the season, but they hurt more when wins are at an all-time premium.
-Bonkers was good though, very strong playing.
-So we missed a Mercedes... yet it's still set up to be very lost like all the rest. Whatever

And finally... CBS... Japan wasn't even mentioned in that cruise. Come on dudes, I don't think anyone would have complained to you if this aired on 4/11...
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

On that I thought it was kinda neat how the 4 corners were left at the end. Little different from the norm.

The 7,440th episode (138th for Season 39)

Second One Bid
I did some research on archive.org, and found out that at the time this was taped, they were still using 2009 prices (Jalopy at $610 and Aloha Mahalo at $550).  The combined prices of the two bikes are now $1,190 (Jalopy at $630 and Aloha Mahalo at $560).

And finally... CBS... Japan wasn't even mentioned in that cruise. Come on dudes, I don't think anyone would have complained to you if this aired on 4/11...
I thought Fuji (which if the recap is correct was the prize played for in Notty) was in Japan. So I think complaints would have come in.

I'll watch the show later (and I guess on CBS.com and not my DVR), but from what I see this show should just be burned with the lone exception of Bonkers.

Now or Then looks crazy. 1986? Really? Either way we got to see Creamettes on the show again. :-D

I don't know what to say to Russell about Line Em Up....oh wait I do...."It was a HONDA FIT!"

Looks like someone actually made Bonkers exciting again.

Even though the contestant needed the chance to complete her last guess after time expired, that was a pretty good playing of Bonkers. She made some good decisions. She got in a lot guesses and didn't look much at the crowd. She made minimal changes between tries. And she started out by trying to stick with what she thought was the right for first digit and sticking with it for a while. Turns out she was right, as she won by going back to Low.

Now or Then
Back then, Manuela wasn't even born yet!
That's just what I was thinking when I was watching. Drew's running gag of saying "way back in" 2000 or 2003. But it was weird to hear him use the same tone of voice when THEN was before the game's model was born.

I really like the photo booth - both the prize and Manuela's presentation of it in the Showcase.
