Mike managed to generate a good amount of excitement for the premiere. Big improvement over the past three openers.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

The Range Game price ($10,250) was exactly $150 higher than the number at the beginning of the scale ($10,100), so the contestant could have won by hitting the button as soon as the range finder moved its first dollar (to a range of 10101-10250).

Has there ever been a setup where the winning price was close enough to the low end of the scale that the contestant could have won without the rangefinder moving at all?

Wow... the set changes look great! Even after hearing what they were, I still didn't expect them to turn out this well. Definitely different, but very nice.

I'm guessing that chat froze when four cars were revealed as the prizes for Race Game.

Three Strikes sixth?! Holy cow!

Wow, what a show. There's really not much to be said here, just that Mike finally figured out how to put a season premiere together, much to my pleasant surprise. It amused me to see the perfect bid on the $668 iPad start out the season (there seemed to be a group chanting it). It also excited me because I knew, since she was playing the first game of S40, she would get a big game and as a good contestant maybe have a chance to win it. When I saw Race Game revealed, I was confused for half a second and then I realized that it could only be for four cars. Then she goes and wins it on her first try and it completes the most perfect opening to a season ever, complete with her reaction actually being focused on for a minute - Drew realized it was a special moment so he didn't rush along. The rest of the show could have consisted of Double Prices played 5 times at that point, and it would have been fine.

But it didn't. We had the triumphant return of Plinko to a season premiere. We had BOB clips appearing on new DREW shows for the first time - the Plinko one in particular was nice to see! Priceisright.com made it sound like we will keep getting classic clips throughout the season too - that would be really nice. And finally, to put a cherry on top, we had 3 Strikes 6th for the first time since 1997! What a great buildup at the end - that Porsche was definitely one nice last surprise. Unfortunately, I knew our luck was due to run out in that game, and it did run out today, but honestly it couldn't have done it on a better day. The budget would have been blown to smithereens if both Race Game and 3 Strikes were won anyway.

The silly showcases, especially SC2 with its private jets and only 2 prizes, feel out of place on a show like this but for the most part I feel Mike got it right today. Someone there knows that THIS is why we watch, and this is the finest example yet of putting together a good show based on prizes and games and not on special guests or gimmicks. Here's hoping they can get it right like this a few more times this season.

Timings:
Race Game (5) - 4:33
Double Prices (3) - 3:11
Most Expensive (3.5) - 3:33
Range Game (4) - 3:38
Plinko (5.5) - 5:25
3 Strikes (7) - 5:09
Total (28): 25:39

I thought Race Game for 4 cars was pretty cool, but I can see how folks might disagree. Isn't that something that's been suggested on these boards. Plus, it's a big win and an easy set up. It would be really hard for someone to lose all four. The paradox is that those super-expensive prizes actually made Race Game easier. Normally, Race Game involves comparing apples to oranges. But with 4 cars, it's an apples to apples comparison. Fitting in four cars certainly made it hard to film them and model them.

Range Game
I thought Manuela looked so cute in that pink boat, I had even set it as my desktop wallpaper.

That was nice. Cool to see a bikini with a very different design that what we usually see. I'm a little greedy; I would have like to see Manuela walk around the boat. The range actually started $10 distance below the bottom. Is that typical? I usually don't pay attention, but this time the winning price was so low, so I did.

Ann was great at the pricing part of Plinko. I wouldn't have done so well. Even the pouch was little, I thought it the 7 was right because it was Coach.

Jacob was certainly systematic by trying each number in the first slot in 3 Strikes, but it wasn't a good idea. He tried numbers that he should know were too low for a Porsche Boxter.

Most 'Expensive was a tough set-up. A vehicle seems like it would be most expensive. On top of that, people who think of computer prices in PC terms wouldn't expect the high Mac price.

The private jet strikes again - jacking up a Showcase price way more than the contestant expects.

When TPTB start coming up with ideas for the S41 premiere, they should watch this episode over. And over. And over. And over. To get it into their heads.

I'm still not thrilled with all the set changes, but they certainly came off better on TV.

Race Game, while it could've caused problems, was awesome to see...first. :P This is the first time it's ever been played first in daytime.

Middle of the show was a little weak, though, what with quickies and tough setups. I mean, $150 up the scale? Geez.

Finally, Plinko was easy. Do these setups more, Mike. Great haul, too.

I never expected 3 Strikes to show up. Was so good to not see it played 1st again, and to see it sixth for the first time in 14 years. Too bad it wasn't won, but to be fair, he didn't play very well. Besides, had it been won, the budget would've been eternally screwed.

No GP game was acceptable with the otherwise stellar lineup, though I still think they could've snuck in Pick-a-Pair rather than Range Game.

And oh yeah, the showcases still suck from last year.

Race - That was an easy setup for having four cars on the line.  Now the oldest active game never played for a car is Danger Price.

Double - Nice to see Mikey & Co. acknowledging Bob.

Range - If Eric had stopped it in the right spot for a win, the audience would have flipped!  The zoomed-out camera was a dead giveaway that he lost - again.

Plinko - Ann earned all four chips!  And I was expecting Pay the Rent this episode...

3 Strikes - I don't personally recall ever seeing 3 Strikes sixth.

SCs - The site was down for so long that I forgot what I bid!  Nice to be back.

The ruby season premiere has finally come and gone.  So after months of deliberating whether or not I wanted to watch another season of Mike Richards making impossible PG setups and contestants making complete chadholes of themselves, combined with the new unwritten rule that only the pretty people are allowed to sit in the front rows, I decided, "What the hell?  I have nothing to lose."

Race Game first?!  On a season premiere?!  And for four cars?!  That was just so far out of left field... it was un-Richards-like.  And not to be outdone, Sharon goes and exactas the damn thing.  I have no idea where the show goes from here.  I wanna say this will be the peak of the entire season and it will be all downhill from here... but when I said that on this forum five years ago, the show ended with Vickyann DSWing the Viper showcase.

A pink sailboat, and a man is playing for it... awkward!  Wait a minute... the price was $10,250... and the range finder started at $10,100-$10,250.  Ummm, would Roger consider that cheating?

At least Plinko starts the new season with a win.  Clip of Plinko's debut = WIN!

If you picked One-Bid #6 of the Season 40 premiere for the first stupid sub-$400 bids of the season, congratulations!  You win the office pool!  Come on down and pick up the keys to your brand new GEM car!

3 Strikes last?!  Yeah, it's official.  MR has gone insane.  Though maybe not as insane as Chris, who apparently thinks that new Porsches cost only $30,000.

My showcase bids:
Camaro--$40,107
Hybrid--$40,107
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".
