The thought crossed my mind that it is moving intentionally slow to "force" the contestant to press the button earlier.  As you know, most contestants don't have the patience or get pressured into stopping the game early.

This was actually the first thought that crossed my mind. The more slowly that range finder climbs and the longer it goes on, the more agitated the audience becomes, yelling for the contestant to press the button. I can totally see the staff using this to their advantage if they wanted more losses. Of course, I have no way of knowing if that's true, but it did come to mind immediately.

Of course, it might be just a one time thing. On the other end of the spectrum, I had a clip on Youtube of a mid-90s playing where the range finder shot nearly all the way up the scale in about 3-4 seconds, to the point of being borderline unfair. Bob had to tell the contestant to look at the board because the range finder was halfway up the scale before the contestant even noticed it was moving. That turned out to be a one time thing too, fortunately.

Curious...did the contestant lose?

Nice wins on Pathfinder & Flip Flop.  Other than that, pretty blah show.

I believe he did, Gerald. It was an older gentleman who was really caught off guard by the range finder's speed that day.

Well, we already saw a later-taped Range Game on the season premiere.  How fast was it moving that day?

Yes, I believe it was.

Yes, I believe it was.

That wasn't really a yes-or-no question...

My mistake.

I meant I believe it was moving at its normal pace.

Again, this really is not an issue... and the plasmas in Studio 33 are high enough & relatively small enough that there's no way anyone could see it even if they somehow knew to try.

Steve stated it perfectly - if a game is being spoiled solely because of the way the show is broadcasted or taped, then it's a problem. If the people in the studio are seeing it, then it's (potentially) a BIG problem, especially considering what they see in the studio is probably an uncompressed, higher quality picture than what is actually broadcast.

Its not like I'm staring into the TV looking for these things.

As for a fix, it doesn't necessarily need to be a plasma display that you're so adamantly opposed to. Like I suggested, it could be fixed with a darker, less opaque shade of green on Range Game and Pathfinder's price displays

I am really shocked I am being met with so much opposition on this issue.

I'm shocked that you think it's a nonissue!

Where is what?

The recap, I believe.  If I'm right, please be patient, pjheath.  Kitch completes the recaps as soon as he can.  If I'm wrong, then I second your post, Steve.
