I know some of you expressed displeasure with the decision I made to change the rules for this week's FPG and I want you to know the reasons behind the decision.
Statements made of true fact:
1. Willy, that's what the game is all about, slotting and predicting wins and losses.
2. Willy, spoilers are clearly handled within the Rules for playing the FPG.
These are facts that are 100% correct, but this specific spoiler presented two very clear issues that a normal spoiler (which was intended to cover what would be considered a spoiler) doesn't necessarily address.
1. One of the games spoiled would be slotted in the same place by all of the FPG players, thereby limiting the only deciding scoring factor to a W/L prediction (by itself fine, but take into account #2)
2. One of the games spoiled in a post made was:
a. Not so clearly spoiled to some people as addressed in other posts.
b. Clearly does NOT have a "home" as the first game does, thereby making the decision as to where the game should be slotted as random luck, as most definitely EVERY SINGLE PLAYER would have taken that game as a WIN as it appeared to be, but moreover, spoiled as such.
Another issue that I had with the post regarding what was posted was that there were two other clearly identifiable visual clues that WERE NOT posted by this person that IMO could have affected what games a player might have taken.
By allowing players to submit two "wild card" games in place of the two SPOILED games, it actually presents the skill involved of looking at the "past played/performance" charts and decide which games were due to appear and allow them to "double up" on a certain type of game with which they might have struggled with.
I don't know what to do about the Canadian player issue. I respect that they have a right to know what the rest of us know, but it presents issues abounds with how the "sharing of information with other players" needs to be handled. Case in point, it was brought to my attention that a prize to be offered was also "spoiled" on a Facebook page with one of the firefighting groups that was in attendance for the show. The player who brought this to my attention linked me to this Facebook page and informed me that he got to this page by doing a Google search, a search BTW I have tried to obtain and have not yet been able to re-create.
Anyway, all but maybe two people got the message about what to do, One certainly didn't get it for some reason, or felt so confident in his remaining five selections that he could throw his first pick. It won't be hard to spot.
