While $50,000 is the only official way to actually win Plinko, I personally consider the contestant to have "won" so long as they hit any money at all.  For instance, I might say to someone "Dave won $100" or "Margaret won $20,500."  I wouldn't say "Dave got $100 but he still lost" or "Margaret got $20,500 but that still means she lost because it's not $50,000."  Again, it may not be a true win by definition since $50,000 wasn't achieved, but an amount of money was awarded by means of dropping chips so I count that as a win in that sense.

The actual retail price is...

I consider it a "win" when the top slot is hit. Even once.

And unofficially, that seems to be the way the staffers have characterized it over the years, dating back to the game's earliest days: any time a contestant won at least $5,000, the scoreboard would FLASH the total at the end of the game. If the top slot wasn't hit, the amount wouldn't flash.

I don't subscribe to the "Records Keeper" mentality that a win can ONLY mean a $50,000 award...but then they're looking at it very differently than the casual observer is.

Count me in with another "$10,000" vote.  Since it's so unlikely that the top prize will be won at such a random game, it's worth celebrating if a Plinko player gets $10,000 once.

You can always count on someone making a thread in The TALK Is Right about a topic after it's been beaten to death elsewhere on the forum.

And much more annoying than that, you can always count on someone to gripe and moan about a topic instead of attempting to add to the discussion or just saying nothing. I mean, no one seems angry in this thread, the discussion is healthy, and CBSpromoman has even added an interesting element that I have not seen discussed in the other thread. Why be such a Debbie Downer?

I've noticed they're even more generous than that with flashing the total. On most of the episodes I have seen, they'd flash the total at $3,500 and above (sometimes even $3,000) and (generally) would not flash on an amount lower than that.

Because this topic has already been beaten to death in 2 other threads and it's just going to get the same responses over and over.

Well, that's certainly not going to help put a positive direction here. I'd honestly expect a better attitude from someone who does the daily recaps for this site. Apparently you missed the part about new aspects of the topic being brought up in this thread. (Either that, or I missed where the new parts were talked about elsewhere.  :oldlol:)

While I certainly agree with temptation, I also agree with Bill, Torgo, and Vader.

Nothing was wrong with adding this new information to the six page recap thread; which is pretty much this thread without a poll.

No need to throw around personal insults just to say you want 50 more threads discussing this....

 :-?

Not sure if you're being silly on purpose or not (personal insults? 50 more topics?) , but anyway, not everyone reads the recap section! Sure, this topic was discussed over there, but to the people who have no interest in checking in daily in that portion of the site, this is new to them. I just don't see anything wrong with discussing a valid topic in The Talk is Right. I'm also not sure why the same people try to derail topics they don't like instead of just ignoring them. Frankly, it's attitudes and actions like that that make this site not nearly as fun as it used to be.

Amen.

I almost never read recaps unless I know something unusual occurred. So I'd have missed this discussion in the recap thread.

Also, anyone who complains about a "new round of an old topic" assumes that there are no newcomers to this site who are just as enthusiastic about the show as they happen to be, but weren't around when it was under discussion once before.

There are plenty of threads in "The Talk is Right" that I don't bother reading because they don't interest me. It takes MORE effort to comment in a thread you're NOT interested in to begin with. It makes NO sense whatsoever to do so unless you're TRYING to look like a jerk to others.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand...

, but anyway, not everyone reads the recap section! Now you're the one being silly. All I believe is that a topic like this can stir up emotions that have already been stirred to death and cause a huge screaming battle between people who think it's $10,000 and those who think it's $50,000. Calling out my simple opinion to be something huge is unnecessary.

I didn't know one simple post could cause so much uproar, but I guess it's just fun to single out one person out of a group (yes, I'm not the only one in this thread who has that opinion about it) and try to belittle their opinion, that seems what a lot of threads turn into nowadays, people calling other people names and mudslinging contests. Like you said best, those attitudes and actions like that that make this site not nearly as fun as it used to be.

Now can we please turn this back into a $10,000 vs $50,000 thread instead of what it has become? Or do you feel the need to attack my opinion more?
