I once read this quote on the Internet which sums my opinion up quite nicely:

"Arrested Development has smart jokes about dumb people. The Big Bang Theory has dumb jokes about smart people."

So, yeah, I think this show is bland, over-hyped, and unfunny. So is Two and a Half Men.

You know what drives me nuts? When The Big Bang Theory gets brought up in conversation with people and they say "I like Sheldon", like it's some unfathomable concept that someone likes the breakout character of the show. It's along the same lines as people who say they like The Price is Right and follow it up with "I like Plinko."

I agree with the first sentence, yet completely disagree with everything you said about the second sentence (except possibly the over-hyped part, but that nothing to do with quality).  I'm not above laughing at base comedy, nerdy though I might be.

It's a mildly funny show.  I watch it when there's nothing else on TV.
