And we now know the set isn't being upgraded, can't believe its been 10 years since Wheel has gotten a new set. The budget must really be hurting or they can't come up with any ideas!

They just updated the background set two years ago...
Quote
I find it ironic how the show tries to mix up the prizes and offer "cool" things like over-stuffed trips and impossible to price items to make the show less "predictable." Yet, the same things happen every single time a show airs.

An old statement that still holds true.

As I observe the old game props, they made a constant feel as if they were playing in a carnival; each game had intricate mechanisms to make them work properly and dazzle audiences.  That feeling can't be duplicated with monitors and animations.  I never thought of that analogy about old props on any game show before, but it makes sense the more I think about it.

Are they at least planning to add new categories or not?

or increase the values of the wheel. In R4 in beyond, everything on the wheel is $1,000 or more. When the speed up bell sounds, the two bankrupts turn into $2,500, LaT turns into $3,500, Free Play becomes a $2,000 space. No Change for $5,000.

Or they'd rather spend the money on prizes. OK with me.
Just once, I'd like to see a contestant get on stage and say, "I watch the show all the time. You look a lot younger in person, Bob."

One confirmed change thus far- players who land on either the Wild Card or Gift Tag will now be awarded $500 per letter in addition to the card/tag.

Spa Getaway will be starting off Season 30. This appears to be the Season 30 logo.

Fixed for you, sir. Minus the confirmed change (money for the Gift Tag/Wild Card), it seems that they would rather spend money on everything except those things directly pertaining to gameplay.
The above is my opinion and mine alone.

Also, the 1/2 Kia tags are no more. Say hello to 1/2 Ford tags.

EDIT: The car will change every week. Must have been unable to get a sponsor for the whole season...

If the trips and cars are on the wheel, how is "win more stuff in the game" not directly pertaining to gameplay?

^Because other than the cash, they always spend the prize budget on trips and cars. Some variety would not hurt.

I think they've determined that people want trips and cars more than furniture, jewelry, and the other kinds of things they offered when the show was more into prizes than cash. Although I have to say, I did some very nice entertaining with my Hickory Farms gift tag. :)

The budget must really be hurting or they can't come up with any ideas!

I don't think the budget for Wheel is hurting at all. They're frequently the #1 show in syndication (they seem to have slipped to #2 a lot against Judge Judy this past season) so their advertiser $$$ are likely quite high...not to mention the number of sponsors they show throughout the show who have sponsored either a round (Jackpot) or a prize on the wheel.
