I always try to give the season premieres a chance. With that being said, this was the most underwhelming season premiere of the last 20 years. I think the most expensive IUFB was a little under $2,300. The remaining five IUFB's were all under $1,050. There were also no cameos of Golden Road or 3 Strikes. Heck--and this one is really surprising--Pay The Rent wasn't even played. The season premieres are absolutely the place to bring out your most expensive prizes. That didn't happen. I like to point out this moment as a shining example of how this season premiere will be remembered:

Drew (during Safe Crackers): "We have a prize back there so valuable that it had to be locked up in a safe. George, what is it?"
George: "A trip to Miami." The entire prize package was worth $6,824.

If you like your season premieres to feel like any other show, this one is for you. This one was not your typical "Corvettes and Cadillacs" premiere. On the other hand, JohnHolder said something interesting in another thread that needs to be pointed out...

Has Mike ever explicitly acknowledged that they're emphasizing Showcases at the expense of pricing games to build toward a climax at the end of the show?

If the Season 41 premiere is not a gleaming confirmation of this, I don't know how much clearer it needs to be made.
"We, in fact, like it when people criticize what we've done on the show because it means you're thinking about the show." -Jamie Hyneman, Mythbusters.

I had thought the Race Game playing for 4 cars last year would be hard to beat. It seems that it was too hard.

So today's show was fair. Double Cross was easy. Lucky Seven was tricky, so was freeze frame and gas money. Safe Crackers was winnable.
pepe! It took us all summer to clean out all the skunk stink from seasons 36, 37, 38, 39, and 40!!!

An OK show if this wasn't a premiere. Since it was, it was subpar for those standards.

Disregarding a 0 choice, are you serious? No 4-6s at all in the price?

Gas Money in particular has no business being on a premiere, but it was set up fine. Unfortunately, there was yet another peculiar bailout, which wasn't even the most awkward thing of the day - that belongs to a freakin' sonicgram on an iPad. Seriously, wow.

But hey, why expect much this season? I should be happy with a 20k+ Plinko and move on. That's what Mike wants...

I am so tired of sexing up all the prizes in a SC with lesser known high cars. Just put a Corvette Convertible in with a regular projector.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

L7: I would've offered a Camaro 2LT Convertible instead w/ the $594 paint/fabric protectant, for a total ARP of $35,674. I was shocked the last number was 8 instead of 4 or 9 & what a fool Puett was for zeroing out on the last digit.

Pl!nko: Unlike L7, that was set up correctly.

DC: I'm a little surprised this game's 2-1 so far in its aired history given how cheap some of its prizes are.

Freeze Frame: I highly doubt this was going to be won, but I do give the audience credit for not liking Patricia's guess of $4,115.

Gas Money: I thought for sure the price was $18K+; I would've gotten rid of the top two prices first, then bust out on the third pick.

Safe Crackers: I think this could've been won, but it wasn't.

Showcases: Very unsurprising both Showcase bids were WOTCs.

Fairly average SP episode.

This didn't feel like a season premiere to me. Sure the Camaro and the showcases were big, but that was it.

The bad: Frugal IUFBs for a season premiere, Gas Money could've offered a more pricier car (and maybe not one thats never been on the show before so its not a total blind guess on the ARP), Cheap prizes on Double Cross, Double Cross being played AGAIN (I dont mind the game but hasnt it been about three aired first run shows in a row we've seen this game?)

The Good: $20K plus win in Plinko

As much as the bad outweighs the good in this show, it could always be worse. Plinko could've had a very small payout and there couldve been a double overbid. I'm going to try to stay as optimistic with this season as possible and try and watch the show like a 'normal' fan of the show and try not to get too into it

It was a good solid show. I had no problem with Lucky 7 as the opener. Granted, it would have set an exciting tone for the show if it was won, but even the Big 3 can be killjoys if they're lost early in the playing.

- that belongs to a freakin' sonicgram on an iPad. Seriously, wow.

I thought that was a cute moment. It provided a nice "family picture" moment of the cast, similar to when Barker use to have the models walk out with him on the odd season opener.

The think music in Double Cross was interesting.. I think I like it

I'm still mixed on the new doors. The orange one came across as ugly on my HD screen.

Showcases: Very unsurprising both Showcase bids were WOTCs.
Incorrect -- a "Willy" is when a Showcase is overbid by at least $10,000. The two Showcase bids today were GOTCs (a "Garf", when a Showcase is underbid by at least $10,000).
The above is my opinion and mine alone.

I honestly thought when I turned on today's show I was watching just a normal episode of S40 or I missed premier week because today's "season premier" has really set the tone for the season to be lackluster and dull.

Safe crackers is my favorite game, and playing it on the premier episode when it barely gets played much in a season?! Common this lineup today was a snooze fest.

If you had bigger prizes maybe it would have saved it but I wanna forget about this premier for the rest of the season.

And so we begin the 41st season! What exciting game will start us off? Golden Road? Triple Play? 5 Car Switcheroo?

.......it's Lucky Seven. Yay? And to those people saying that "0" was a foolish guess, would casual viewers pick up on the fact that there's never 0s in the game? Drew told him to pick a number 0-9, and he did...

Plinko: Always exciting when the last chip lands in 10k. The cheers can keep going as the contestant walks down the steps.

Cross: Sheesh, the game's already been played more time than Professor Price...and it's been active for how many shows?

Freeze: I was expecting her to ask to change her guess with the crowd's reaction...doubt Drew would have allowed it though.

Gas: $3,000 is $3,000. I'd rather have that than the car (assuming I can't sell the car :P)

Safe: So....what's valuable that we're locking it in a safe? The city of Miami? Or are we just protecting the monitors from getting stolen. That was probably supposed to be won, with x50 generally looking better than x60.

SCs: Oh. So that's why no Big 3. Yay....

EDIT: I forgot all about the sonogram....while I do admit it seemed to drag on a bit with the models/George congratulating her, nothing wrong with a mention, or even showing the sonogram itself...

From the looks of it, seems like today sucked.

Though I'll give them credit for this...this is one of the best lineups they've done in quite awhile. Not very season-premiere worthy, but oh well.

Oh...PLINKO SECOND!!! That is all. :P

Come on guys, Race Game for 4 Cars and surprise 3 Strikes last year set everyone's standards super high for this year, and it could not be beat.

The 40th Anniversary has much much more significance than the 41st....

Anyone remember Season 38's Opener?

Lucky Seven, Plinko, Pushover, Grocery Game, That's Too Much, and Most Expen$ive. The showcases were $31,511 and $38,768 and it was 1/6 with a technical win.

Season 39?

Pay the Rent, Lucky Seven, Pushover, Most Expen$ive, Money Game, and Squeeze Play.

You can't really expect every year to have Race Game for 4 Cars or anything else super spectacular guys, take what you can get.
"Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better." - Sydney J. Harris

“For the premiere of season 30, CBS wanted to do a special primetime show. However, they asked that we also add a gimmick or a twist to make it truly special. I came up with the suggestion of taking the show on the road for the first time in its history." - Roger Dobkowitz
