My laptop problem? Maybe a virus?
« on: November 30, 2012, 02:39:46 PM »
All week,  I've replied to the post here with my iPhone cause I'm having an issue with my laptop since Monday morning.  Any Internet sites especially Facebook, YouTube and here runs slow or stop and some of my friends says maybe a virus and would have to get something done.

Is there a way of looking at it and fixing it without having to spend the money I DON'T have (extra) right now so I can get it back to normal?

I have Norton Anti Virus in my system which is Windows 7, BTW.

Facebook recently announced that because they switched from http to https, their site may load slower than it previously had. So in that case, it may be FB and not your laptop.

Youtube has been slow for me as well but this site seems to be okay.  A virus is still possible which leads me to my next point.

I've never been crazy about Norton.  Might I suggest AVG or Avast?  They're free and they've worked well for me over the years.  I too use Windows 7.

The actual retail price is...

I tried using this software but I have to buy the full version which is $35.00 to get my PC totally fixed.  The free trial versions didn't get it fixed.

Why not buy Webroot Secure? I use that to protect my laptop.

^ In my experience, Webroot is a memory hog that doesn't really give you much in return.  A better solution is Avast, it's free and it's a lot more effective than most of its peers, including Webroot.

Since everyone is throwing their favorite Anti-Virus in here, I'm going to throw in Microsoft Security Essentials into the bag. :P

We have Microsoft Security Essentials on all our Windows 7 desktops and laptops at home, and it does a great job in my experience.
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

In my experience, I have no trouble with Webroot Secure. It alerts me when a virus is present and removes it quickly.
