12/7/12 -- Frequencies/Picks
« on: December 07, 2012, 09:07:53 AM »
Folks, we had a FPG Historic Moment® this week.  SteveGavazzi predicted a "loss" on one of his PG picks.  I won't tell you which PG, but I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw that "L" on his card. :-D

"Key games" highlighted in blue.

Any Number - 15
Most Expen$ive - 13
Rat Race - 13
Punch-a-Bunch - 9

Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

You know, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to give out more awards this week.

However, with someone having picked Cover Up, Double Prices and Plinko (two of you!), well...

I didn't think Monday was THAT far away.

That being said, it is Drew's 1,000th show, so craziness could happen.  (Except for Cover Up.  That's just an asinine pick.)

Assuming it's Pay the Budget Rent, that's the game he picked as a loss last time.

In full honesty I picked Plinko as I found it to be reasonable. In fact I think it had 3 or 4 CP. I should have picked Rat Race but completely forgot it was Drew's 1000th show. Oh well!

Why would Plinko be reasonable when it showed up this week already? Especially if you didn't know it was Drew's 1000th. :?

Any Number! :D

In all seriousness, it could be Rat Race or Rent.

As someone who picked Cover Up, let me suggest that perhaps you should keep your damn comments to yourself.  I don't stress over my picks...I don't do any research...I just try to have fun based on my memory of the week.  And given that I have a day job, and also have a night teaching job, I apologize if my picks are not up to your high standards.

In addition, I see that Torgo keeps some sort of award in his profile, which I am guessing is not complimentary.  I expect an apology here in the forum.  If my presence and participation are no longer welcome here, then I will gladly give up my role as moderator, and leave these boards.

Come on sideshow, picking a game that's been already played this week means you're going to get some flak for it.

Come on Wayoshi....you assume that I actually watch the show every day, or have the time to do the hard research.  If you really feel that the "asinine" is appropriate, and that his making fun of me his profile is appropriate, then we really have fallen on hard times.

I'm defending sideshow here. Not only is Cover Up a very popular game, but some people just play this game for fun. Y'know, because IT'S A GAME. Calling a pick for a GAME dumb isn't very helpful. One more thing; predicting isn't easy, and I can assure you even the best FPG players have bad days because of the sporadic nature of the entire schedule.

sideshow, trust me, you have every right to complain. I don't know what's happened here either...
Stop the madness.

Eh, I'm on the edge on this one...Yeah, Cover Up was played on Monday, but there was the offbeat chance it might have showed up today for some weird reason, so it's not completely asinine. Then again, you can't really take that much offense at that statement to threaten to leave the boards and expect an apology...

It's like in CSS, Jon usually pokes a bit of fun at people who bid $20,000 on a Showcase with a Porsche in it. It's not meant to be taken as a personal insult or anything, and they learn from their "mistakes" (everyone does, nobody is perfect from game 1 or even game 9999999999) and move on.

After all, it is just a game. It's supposed to be fun. When everyone is jumping down everyone else's throats, it takes away from it, and that is not fun. I think we all need to take a deep breath and calm down. People need to watch what they say when they criticize someone else's picks (which should not really be done in the first place) and others need to not take what people say so personal. If there is something nasty said about you, the report to moderator button is there.

Now, as far as the signature / tally is concerned, In my opinion, that is pretty offensive and should be changed immediately.

That's just my stance here.

There was never any offense meant with the Herp-a-Derp awards.  Even the NAME is silly.

I wish to keep these for seveal reasons, in my eyes:
- The ONLY way to attain a Herp-a-Derp is to pick a game that has been played this calendar week.  If tapings are out-of-order and, as such, tapings aren't necessarily the same for a week, no award would be given, and I've maintained that policy.
- The games played already during the week are available not just publicly, but on this site.  You can complain about not having time all you want, but if you still have the time to send a private message, you - to me - can take two minutes to see what twenty-four games you can rule out.
- I've also attempted to turn something once critiqued in the chat rooms - "dumb" picks - and try to dress it up, make it fun, and a little less stressful.  In no way does earning a Herp-a-Derp mean you're a bad fan, stupid, or anything of the sort.  I see it as a badge of "brain fart honor".
- Everyone's picks are posted ANYWAY in this thread.  I don't try to be mean; I just wish to help people along regarding their picks.

If it would make everyone happy, we should have a post - and I'd volunteer - every week listing the games that have already been played in the weekly FPG thread.  It would certainly lessen the chances of a pick being chastised.

If you quit a message board because you're not the greatest at a (completely optional) game, then that's your prerogative.  Your stance as moderator or your presence on here has absolutely no effect on me.

We have entered dark times, the times of spines withering up and disappearing.  But I'm willing to compromise.

This was always meant as merely light ribbing and playful taunting.  I know it's just a game.

Understood and understood.

I thought the award is probably given out in the same fun in which you play the game.

I hardly find scrolling through four recap threads "hard research" or stressing. But I don't know your schedule, so I can't speak to your experience.

Why are you going to leave because of one poster? No offense to DJ, but you've been a member here for almost nine years and are the moderator of a sub-board. I honestly can't believe that even though Drew's hiring and Roger's firing that this would be the thing to end your tenure here.

I've got an idea to avoid this, maybe I'll do it next week...
If it would make everyone happy, we should have a post - and I'd volunteer - every week listing the games that have already been played in the weekly FPG thread.  It would certainly lessen the chances of a pick being chastised.
Actually, this was my idea.
