Meh. Looks like Adam's approach to writing lineups every week now is "let's play the same games over and over in a different order every Monday-Thursday, and then on Friday for FPG we'll throw some of the other ones in". Which he did today with Shell, Pocket, and even PA# for the first time in 11 airdate weeks. Unfortunately, the results were as lackluster as they go. The one standout today was Shell which Drew finally hosted dead on, not mentioning the bonus until the last small prize. I would prefer him to continue to host this way, and then not even mention it at all if the contestant misses an SP before the last one. In general, that was well done today, even with the obvious painful result.

I don't think Gas should ever be in the same half with two quickies just because we know it will likely be wiped out, and then there goes your half. After what feels like a bunch of wipeouts in a row, it would also be nice to see it set up to at least prevent a wipeout from happening once in a while...

Timings:
Freeze Frame (4) - 2:43
Gas Money (5.5) - 3:42
Pick A Number (3.5) - 3:11
Shell Game (6) - 6:17
One Right Price (3.5) - 2:59
Pocket Change (5) - 6:10
Total (27.5): 25:02

I feel like FPG may have been considered a bit too much in this lineup while trying to mix in the usual games like Freeze & Gas. Freeze & Pa# are weird together, and the whole thing was slotted pretty terribly.

That said, Gas was wiped out again when it was very avoidable, Shell was actually lost and in a very painful way (this is why you don't put the hard SP last), and Pocket was blah. Insta-sunk show right there.

I didn't think that last one was that hard. I knew that wok was expensive.

Even with all 4 chips in Shell, odds are the contestant wouldn't have chosen the correct shell to win the cash equivalent prize. It was just really bad luck that she didn't win the dining room; in that respect, it doesn't matter where "the hard SP" is.

Gas Money could have been made easier. How about a wider range between each possible price, for example? How about a $9,000 price? :)

I know there's not much chance of this, but I wish they would get rid of those contestant body mics. Hearing the screaming and "woooooing" from some of the female contestants was quite unpleasant.

The lineup was completely weak sauce.

Pocket Change and Shell Game were fine examples of "Close but no cigar".

As for Gas Money.............

It was the same thing like the Spring Break special a few weeks ago and previous playings (or lack thereof) this season: They think that the cheapest price tag is not the pink slip, and at times that will lead to a wipeout, like from Joyce today...............That really irks me.

And don't me started with Pick-A-Number. That was too much a "Give me a win" setup.

So while a TV and a scooter was given away on ORP, mostly just a bunch of trips were won. Definitely was expecting a lot more today, like a car game win. However, in Mike and Adam's favor, it looks like I was asking too tall of a order today.

That's actually a really good reason to put the hard SP last.  It creates better suspense!  That's a good thing!

Nice to see Shell Game, and Freeze Frame while fast, was fun.  Everthing else ranged from blah to a complete fail.  I mean, why both OWP and PAN on a show?  I know the need for a few quick PGs, but two of the three driest in the same episode is just UGH.

Well, 1RP was there to have a quickie that didn't offer one prize.  Pick-a-Number hasn't shown in forever, and Freeze is just around.  Nice to see that last one won, though.

Let's start off with this: Freeze and Pa# shouldn't really be in the same half. Go with a shorter car game if need be, but really, that's not a good way to start off. While, yeah, Joe Plinko doesn't care about lineups, there's a possibility that he cares about how much gameplay happens. Freezy and Number don't allow for that. Speaking of the first half, how in the heck was Gas wiped out today? I'm not expecting a win as people aren't going to know the prices, most likely, but that really had no excuse of not getting at least SOME money on that setup. Ditto PAN, that was absolutely set up to be won. At least Drew didn't harp on "but you won your cameras/$500!" And that is a good thing.

Shell, well, ouch, this was as painful as it gets. Add an image of today's playing next to the GR dictionary next to painful loss. I had a feeling the wok might have been higher (and, oddly, a gut feeling the ball would be under shell 2), so there wouldn't be the chance of that 12K+ in cash won. This is absolutely okay, by me. Drew actually mentioned the cash equivalent bonus, stupid as said bonus may be, at the right time! Fantastic. There was some debate in the chat today whether the hard SP should've been 3rd (like it is in Bonus) or last, as it was. I think that's getting into too petty of complaints, to be honest. I don't mind it discussed, since hey, we're on a Price forum, but, yeah. I personally liked it last, it added some nice drama, AND let Drew mention the bonus line at the right time. Frank is exactly right. I really have zero issue with how Mike (or whoever it was) set this up, with the possible exception of the price of the dining room, which didn't need to be that expensive of a model (for both prize and potential cash). My point stands though, I loved the SP setup and order, but that's me. Gotta give credit where it's due.

Pocket's playing was not too enjoyable, other than a nice shot of the amount quantity table on the lower-right hand side of the prop. Further, Drew was kinda lazy during this segment, at least during the envelope reveals, almost like he knew she had no chance, and there wasn't much energy here. I don't watch nearly as much as I used to, if at all, but is that booing routine new, a one time trick, or a common fallback? That itself was kind of funny, got everyone involved.

SCSD 2 sticks out to me because of Melynda's overtime spin: It just showed how frequently Drew goes to the "Anyone you wanna say hi to?" as a crutch. I mean, he told her that twice. Drew needs a quick second line to use here, which isn't that hard. I mean, what about something as basic as: "Who's out in the audience with you?" Really simple, and would be a nice breath of fresh air.

SC1 was honestly not bad in tying the barbecue theme together, at least for a modern showcase. Tripcase, yeah, sigh there, but hey, I didn't think they'd be able to work Argentina in as well as they did.

SC2, well, really? A trip less than 150 miles from the studio for prize one, and then a rather random Kia Rio for prize 2. How does that relate to rock star, the Rio? Not like they can afford it, but that's a showcase screaming for a Mustang or one of the rare times to pull out a luxury car. Since they're blowing money left and right elsewhere, this naturally wasn't an option. That said, dang, was that Kia loaded on its options or what? Good premise on this showcase, I'll give them that, but the execution was absolutely half-assed and god awful.

Miscellany: Drew, honestly was okay for this show, and by okay, I mean its literal meaning. Nothing great, nothing horrible, although a few different lines with plays on the contestant's name were a kind of welcome change of pace. Let's please do something about contestant mics, the screamers today gave me a mild headache, and really added nothing today. Then again, do they [the contestants mikes] truly ever add anything of substance to the show?

With the cash = ARP of prize rules, I just find the exacta-avoiding SP last a really bad cock tease, and then leaves you open to the really bad painful loss.

My opinion, but they had it right taking care of it earlier.

I have a sensitivity to loud noises, particularly, screaming,  so I really can't watch the show, with all the screaming happening. I could tolerate it before the contestants got miked, because it seemed like it didn't happen very often,  but now it's just too much. Don't understand why the contestants have to be miked.

Nice wins on Freeze Frame & 1 Right Price! :-)  Pretty blah other than that, IMHO.

I knew that the wok was gonna cost Melynda the bonus on Shell Game.  What a painful loss having the ball be under the only shell that wasn't marked.

Uh, Mike?  Adam?  You guys do realize that if nobody ever gets more than two inches in Gas Money or Pass the Buck, it means you aren't setting them up correctly, don't you?

Having Freeze Frame and Pick-a-Number show up not only in the same show but in the same half felt really weird.

I really hope the angled shot of Door #2 they've been using the last few days for things like Most Expen$ive and 1 Right Price goes away quickly.  It looks very awkward.

Shell Game was one of the best segments to air on the show in a long time simply because you were genuinely rooting for this woman whose house had been flooded to win a new dining room.

I think it's kind of unique; like the shot of the turntable spinning earlier in the same segment. At least it's better than the boring directing we've had pretty much since Marc Breslow was let go.
