Commas on TPiR
« on: May 27, 2013, 01:39:41 PM »
I know that for some games, such as Coming or Going and Side by Side, there just is no sensible place to put a comma.

But does anyone know the reason why some of the games that could easily include commas don't?

Really?  We seriously have a thread about this?  I'm the biggest grammar/punctuation nerd in the universe, and even I've never wondered about this.

There are no commas in the game boards because the show's staff never thought about it, either.

I can't speak for the missing commas, but everytime they play Pay the Rent, my colon gets irritated.

Haha... no "period" jokes, please.

The only time I noticed any missing commas were on the newer graphic for a $1,000 win in the Showcase Showdown and that's only because they USED to be there.

Neither of these games should have a comma if there were a sensible place to put one on the prop.
How many games do you think actually (and legitimately) need a comma added?

As silly and ridiculous is seems, I've had the same thought before. Like Push Over's reveal could use a comma and a dollar sign. The price reveal looks like a mailbox address. Not necessary, just  a thought..

I think the answer is one of the following:

1. They simply never thought of adding commas
2a. They thought it wouldn't look good
2b. They thought would interfere with game-play on some games. (Such as games like Coming or Going or Side by Side)

Easy as 1, 2, 3?

I believe he was referring to the prices, not the game names.

Show staffers probably never thought of this. But in reality, very very few games would have a comma.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

I don't think any games need a comma.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was any rhyme or reason why commas are put in some games and not others.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that if the price is in a sans-serif font, there is no comma.

If serifs are around all willy-nilly, then there is a comma.

But I think I've figured this out... 4 digits prices, no comma, 5 digits prices, comma!
