Well, uh, that was...

1. ...the most exciting 3 Strikes loss in a while; he had the price figured out nicely, but just couldn't convert on the 1/3 luck of the draw.
2. ...the worst-played Cliff Hangers win I've seen in a while. The $5 at first reminded me of that one playing on (I think) 6/17/11, where the contestant's guesses were $5, $7, and $6; I think the egg cooker was even the same second prize there, though at least today's contestant got that one close.
3. ...a very interesting dichotomy between the two remaining First Four contestants on OB6: one makes a smart $1-more bid, the other makes a suicidal $1-less bid.
4. ...quite possibly the first time I've ever seen someone bail on Grand Game.
5. ...one of the worst overall performances on the Showcases this season. Though at least $31,500 for the boat was within reason, given that boats can be tough to price... but $39,500 for SC2? Where on earth do you pull that from?

In short, well, uh, that was... interesting.

Coming off the last taped shows of the season, this one sort of stuck-out from the rest as being clearly from earlier in the season, what with the old Grand Game display still in use and Gwendolyn's obvious pregnancy. The lights on the door logos looked really bright on this show too, so, I'm glad they toned that down as the year went on. Mostly everything was pretty harmless, though... aside from two things that I didn't care for - the second showcase was really disappointing; those retro kitchen appliances in the second showcase were ugly. I know they were intended to be like that, but I still wouldn't want them in my house. Also, seeing as they built the entire showcase up as being classic and retro, I'm thinking offering a classic car at the end of it would have made a lot more sense than the somewhat lame side-car motorcycle.

The other thing I didn't care for was that whole presentation George did with the sixth prize up for bids - just the verbiage he was using ("it's really cool!" really stuck out) and the whole "demonstration" bit with the lowering of the lights just came off as amateurish and goofy. I think it's best when the wow factor of the prizes can generally speak for themselves with maybe the host embellishing it a little bit, like Bob used to do when hyping up a nice car in 3 Strikes or Lucky $even. However, the announcer's part in the proceedings should be to enthusiastically describe the prize(s) in question, not gush about how cool it is. I'm glad that George's participation in the show seems to have diminished as the season came to a close - he's better served to just stand behind the podium and announce, not actively get involved in the proceedings.

Agreed.  That whole bit felt like it was pulled out of a time warp from the beginning of Season 37.

Other than that and Drew's middling hosting, though, this was a pretty good episode, and I certainly can't complain about seeing 3 Strikes (which I've suspected for a good while was played on this show).
