I think these "special" shows are getting out of control, it's just gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks. Who cares about any of it? If they wanted to do a military themed show for the Fourth of July, okay fine - we've seen it before, it's sort of a tradition of The Price is Right to salute the military. But, did this really need to be a two-player show - and more to the point, hasn't the novelty of two-player shows worn off by now? Mother's day with two-players? Okay, makes sense. Father's day with two-players? Sure. But, military families? Kind of stretching it. Also, if they insist on having these two-player episodes, they shouldn't be playing games where one person has to directly interact with the game, like Safe Crackers in this instance - one person dials in the price, not two. Thank God they haven't played Hole in One on one of these two-player shows (yet).

Really, these theme shows are so commonplace now that the word "special" is hardly befitting because there's nothing special about them - they're ordinary shows with a little half-baked window dressing thrown on-top. The same prizes are offered on these "special" shows, the usual games are played, and usually the same outcomes take place. Just same old-same old. You want to have a special show? Play Triple Play, play Golden Road, play three car games, play It's in the Bag for $24,000 - instantly it's a special show because these things rarely happen. Giving away free bonus prizes like $500 gift cards or free iPhones or whatever it may be to everyone who gets on-stage is meaningless - no one cares because they didn't do anything to earn those prizes.

Kyle,

To be honest I stopped watching when this was ANOTHER "Two Contestant Show."  WHY?  The specials are becoming so often that they aren't special anymore, just a reason to change the channel.  And I know I am not the only one who feels this way.  It's such a turn off and a let down.  Mike and Crew can't comprehend this.

Why is it that of all the "Specials", it feels like the Military ones - that are billed as saluting our country's finest - always seem like they're some of the least-winning shows? Starting off the show with Safe Crackers... with a trip... with a 670/760 setup? Really?! Just bring them up and say "Thanks for your service; Here's a coin, flip away!" It's just disappointing. It's as if they take advantage of America's patriotism by using the military to garner attention without having to give anything substantial away.

With regards to the amount of these "Special" shows: My theory is that someone at the show worries about the summer reruns not earning ratings for not being new shows. So they're doing as many of these as possible so as to cram the summer full of a few solid weeks of nothing but "Specials".

Oh, and I wish they'd leave Freeze Frame out in the rain.

Leaving most games up to sheer luck is also a mistake on a "special", however.

And that includes the Firefighters and Policemen this season as well.

Actually, just the policemen. The firefighters didn't do as badly.

You know, I'm reminded of another underlying gripe from this past season. Pass The Buck, Pathfinder, and Stack The Deck get all the attention because two of them are semi-played and they're all car games, but another thorn in my side is Safe Crackers. Only twice this season was Safe Crackers set up with a spread greater than $90. That's disappointing.

It's also disappointing that they don't setup all of these specials, especially the military ones, to produce more wins.

I guess the Firefighters special was good, seeing that a car game (Line 'Em Up) was won. The Policemen one, however, was a cruel joke out of Mike's expense (One of the showcases that included a $1200 gift certificate for donuts?! *shaking my head*)

The 7,871st episode (188th for Season 41)
How close is the show cutting the 8000th episode to April 1, 2014?

Let's see, April Fool's was 6291K this year, right, starting from the 6030s... let's project, starting with 6420s (which is being used up on a gimmick week) and what is looking like a similar schedule to this year that it is 6682K... start of 27th week... 26*5 = 130 max --> 8002nd... well, it's going to just miss with the two three-episode weeks and maybe a random 4 somewhere.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Maybe they want the contestants to work as a team.  Cause on Minute To Win It if you ever seen it before,  It started out as a 1 player game show in Season 1, Then in season 2 every contestant that came on the show work as a team with a friend or family member.  And it's the same with The Price Is Right.  Besides contestants ask family members and the  audience,  So  why not have someone to them right there.

I'm sure they do, just as sure as I am that the games were designed to be played by one player.

Cause on Minute To Win It if you ever seen it before,  It started out as a 1 player game show in Season 1, Then in season 2 every contestant that came on the show work as a team with a friend or family member.

Yeah, and look how long that show lasted.

Besides contestants ask family members and the  audience,  So  why not have someone to them right there.

While they're at it, why don't they have the contestants poll every individual member of the studio audience and get their opinion? They could outfit the audience with voting devices and put the results up on-screen to gauge exactly what everyone thinks. Wait a minute... why does this sound so familiar?

The problem is that most pricing games are inherently 1 player game. Yeah, maybe Plinko or Punch a Bunch could work as 2 player games but most can't. Games like Range Game,One Right Price,Most Expensive,Pick a Number,Double Prices,Safe Crackers, etc really are inherently 1 player games. That is the inherent problem with playing in pairs shows.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

What's your point here? The rumor was Fremantle wanted more like Idol, not Millionaire.
