Another funny show indeed this week. You got the wrong check used in Punch a Bunch , the opening reveal kinda blown in Race Game and Drew forgetting to give the Contestant the free number in Stack the Deck.

Yet another funny and good show today.

THE BAD NEWS:

Race Game: Well....................at least, Andrea didn't look at the audience.

Stack The Deck: Heather may know her ski equipment, but her cars. She should know she's not playing for a muscle car............It's a Corolla.

Double Prices: I guess Terry can order Chicago-style pizza, that is if she has a pizzeria that serves it. I was surprised the Chicago trip would be that cheap.

THE NOT-SO-BAD NEWS:

Punch-A-Bunch: Blake multiplied his winnings ($500) and then he divided them ($250). Better than nothing, I guess.

THE GOOD NEWS:

ME: That really duped me when I thought that the range was expensive. Good thing Sophia picked the motorscooter. And she won her SC.

A#: Talk about your nail-biters...........Alleen really put the nuts in the "sin bin" when they wanted her to pick 5, but instead she picked 7, which led to her win!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

After ME and A#, it pretty much went down-hill, win-wise anyway. But it was still a fun show today. The segment from Punchy was mistakenly funny with the $250K board instead of the $25K. And........(groans).........These "El-Cheapo"-cases. Maybe giving away a Audi might be leading to some tighter reins.

I'll have to tell ya- those players during those tapings have been playing well, especially by averting those intended DOB setups all week long. That was a great any number win by Allene by refusing the audience's chant of 5 at the end!

Drew, I know you dislike Stack the Deck, but that does NOT mean you get to sleep through it:

1) Making the mistake (that he has once before, in Season 38) of forgetting to award the contestant a free number after a correct pick (probably because correct picks actually happen so rarely). Forgivable, and ultimately it advantages the contestant anyway, but not as forgivable when you combine it with....
2) Coming dangerously close to causing a technical win. Upon rewatching this, I feel a little better about it, as Drew eventually does clearly state that what he wants is the first number of the price, and after that she confirms 2, so I can't tech it. But it was clear that initially she was confused and thought she was getting to take another number for free, and Drew interpreted "second" as 2. I'm glad that this eventually got fixed because I got REAL nervous for a few seconds there. And Drew's been having a pretty good week! But something about this game just causes him to give up - they should probably fix that. Maybe the fact that the groceries actually were a little more reasonable today is a good start.

This was a pretty fun show. It was nice to see that the Punch A Bunch contestant actually pays enough attention to the show to know where the wrong $250,000 tag was from :) And also nice to see an Any Number contestant claim she's been watching the show for 42 years, and then actually play like it (i.e. ignoring the audience and owning them all!) We just need to fix Stack. At least we're playing it less this season..

I am enjoying all the cheap showcases... at least they are including prizes other than trips/cash/cars in there.

Most Expensive: Some pretty nice prizes to start off the show. I knew it was the scooter. As Drew himself has noted TV prices have really come down in recent years. The gas range just looked pretty cheap. Nice way to start a show.

Any Number: Without a doubt the highlight of today's show. Any Number is 1 of my very favorite pricing games and today's playing was a wonderful illustration of why. Any Number provides the opportunity for great and exciting comebacks and today's contestant gave a great and exciting comeback to win the scion. Plus the ending of Any Number when it comes down to the very last pick provides great suspense while still being fair.

Punch a Bunch: bummer $250 ain't much.

Race Game: Race Game is a favorite game of mine though I didn't much care for today's prizes. Still a bummer to see the playing end with 0.

Stack the Deck: I think both Drew and today's contestant were confused during this game. The game itself had a tough setup but $23 thousand was too high a value to attribute to a Corolla. $21 thousand would have been a more reasonable losing guess. Today's contestant clearly overpriced the value of the Corolla.

Double Prices: I don't like this game but it is kinda neat to see it staged in front of contestants row.  Chicago is a nice trip destination and it's too bad it was lost.

Showcases: The Volkswagen showcase that was won was the better showcase.

Overall: Good start that quickly dissolved. However there has a trend lately of 2 for 6 shows being okay as opposed to not too good and today was another such case considering the car win,a 2nd car being won in the showcase, and how great the Any Number segment was.
« Last Edit: January 30, 2014, 05:11:15 PM by moneygamelover »
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Honestly, I have no problems with a cheap showcase......

...unless its value is less than any of the prizes offered during the pricing games (sans any game that offers $50K+)

I don't know what's with the obsession with hiding every single game before the prize reveals (Bonus Game, Race Game, Take Two, Hi Lo), but I wish it would stop.

On the other hand, I see they've been a bit more willing to leave some mistakes in the final cut lately. That's definitely a good thing; it makes the whole production more human.

How great was George's Johnny Olson impersonation? Not that it was actually that good, but just the fact that he did it.

When was the last time we saw a wipeout in Race Game? Seems like a good while to me.
I'll have to tell ya- those players during those tapings have been playing well, especially by averting those intended DOB setups all week long. That was a great any number win by Allene by refusing the audience's chant of 5 at the end!

Was in the audience for this one.

Gave Terry the 1200 dollar bid that Andrea then outbid her by a buck and won on. I think I gave her the bid that got her up on stage later as well. Of course, I then cost her the Chicago trip, whoops. Wouldn't have made that mistake now.

Any Number was insane, whole audience was wrong and she got it right. Place went nuts.

The Race game was a bummer. No good way to communicate with her, and we tried to tell her the videogames were 1500 before it started... if she had worked that out, she might've been able to pull it off. That (and the recumbent bike) were the two easier prizes to lock the price down on.

great time though.
