My two cents:

One Right Price: I knew it was the ATV. Too bad Barbara didn't.
Switcheroo: I thought Kami had the Sonic on the first try, but boy was I wrong. At least I had the meat thermometer. As for Kami, tough break.
Range Game: Just a few more seconds, and he would've had it.
Swap Meet: Tough break. Somehow, I knew it was the beverage center.
Bullseye: Thank goodness Jamie saved the show from becoming winless. And I knew that dish soap was 3.99.
Lucky Seven: Tough break. Reasonable price, though. And even better, Lillie won $26,000 on the Big Wheel!

Too bad about the Double Overbid, though.

Aside from Lillie getting a Double Dollar and that Bullseye win, which was the only win, the show was pretty much a letdown. So........

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Another 1/6 show today. Guess May Sweeps has started 2 days early. Plus, I really don't know what to think about the contestants today..........I was hoping that Lillie would at least bid $1.00 on her SC after I saw the writing on the wall from Barbara.......But I guess she didn't know that so I won't hold that against her. Still, unfortunate that there was a DOB.

However, Michael bid $50?!?! On POWER TOOLS?!?!?!?!?!

I don't know what Michael was thinking. Even by 1972 standards, $50 is too low for all those tools.

Michael must find power tools at thrift stores with such a bid. That said:

One bids: Nicer than average prizes with only one three-digit prize. Even though iPods have been around for a dozen years, there are still some expensive ones.

One Right Price: I've never been as excited to see this game being played in the wake of the Dennis James prototype posted. But that was a blown setup which is a shame since those were nice prizes.

Switcheroo: That chopper was not the change to make there, another disappointing loss.

Range Game: This game could have been lost by stopping too late based on its setup. Instead, the opposite happens thanks to the perception that furniture shouldn't be too expensive.

Swap Meet: I'm afraid the handbags were a Mikestopper here; I thought the handbags were only around $1000 or so meaning that a decent midlevel Sony PC would cost around that much, but then hoped that when the $2020 was shown that the computer was loaded with nice stuff. It was hard to convince that basically a small refrigerator cost as much as what looked like a decent laptop.

Bullseye: A shame that the only win of the day was from one of the easiest games; at least that means no skunk.

Lucky $even: Setting up the game based on the game's title just isn't going to provide many winners.

Showcase Showdown 2: At least Lillie shouted for "Big Money" during her first spin and it came to fruition!

Showcases: Not only we had a DOB, but a WOTC bid who thought that car was a near-luxury one. Really spoils would could have been a great ending following the Big Wheel win.

Bottom line: Pretty much on par with yesterday by adding some Big Wheel cash for a showcase winner, with no car winner once again.

Show Grade: D+

1 Right Price: This was setup to be won. $3849 looked like a reasonable price for the ATV and looked a bit expensive for the TV. Edit by Alfonzo: Derogatory comment about contestant removed, and judging by your track record this might be the last time this happens.

Switcheroo: Too bad the Chevy Sonic was won and a real downer that nothing was won.

Range Game: This was not only a painful loss but an unfortunate 1. Today's contestant had a great feel for how to play Range Game in terms of paying attention to the price rather than aiming toward the center of the board. Just a little longer wait and he'd have won the outdoor kitchen island.

Swap Meet: Tough setup.

Bullseye: Nice win of a nice trip. The 1 good part of the show today.

Lucky 7: Too bad the Toyota Yaris wasn't won. Tough way to end it.

Showcases: The double overbid makes this worse than most 1 for 6 shows. This was a really bad show. Man we're having a bad week.
« Last Edit: April 29, 2014, 06:36:06 PM by Alfonzo »
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Can we please stop calling contestants derogatory terms/questioning their intelligence? Come on now, you should know better.

It's one thing to say it was an easy setup meant to be won and the contestant didn't take advantage of it that's 100% fine, but no need to call them names....

I'm thinking that Drew has been recently watching some of Bob's shows. His explanation of the Switcheroo rules was much improved today (he actually used the word "price, and more than once, before the contestant started working with the blocks). However, he didn't explicitly ask the her if she wanted to use her 2nd thirty seconds; he put them on the clock and insisted she "Go!". At least he let her know that she didn't have to change anything.

Also, as more support for my recent Bob watching thought, did you notice how Drew presented the third IUFB (along with the camera shot)? He said something like "I believe we have another prize" and then pointed it out, instead of his usual look into the camera with "Next prize please!".  Barkeresque. :)

Fantastic $26,000 Big Wheel win!!

Well remember, Drew doesn't know the prices ahead of time, so I read this as just him doing his thing.  Bob didn't do that (toy guitar incident notwithstanding), but that's more an effect of his style being different I think.  Don't forget that Drew Carey is and always has been a comedian, so it's in his nature to try and get a quick laugh anywhere he can.
