Just a couple of comments:

I thought the Now or Then and Most Expensive setups were pretty easy.

I didn't like the Card Game setup though. With the range she had, the contestant didn't have to choose any cards to win. I don't think the price of the car and the starting amount should be so close together.

My two cents:

Now or Then: Tough break there.
Most Expensive: Piece of cake!
Gas Money: Another tough break.
Balance Game: Finally, the losing streak is over!
Card Game: First loss under its new look. Tough break, 'nuff said. She should've stopped after drawing that 4 of clubs.
Coming or Going: Another good win. And he won his Showcase!

Showcases: Neither Showcase has a car, but that doesn't affect my decision much. I think both Showcases are okay.

Judging from the recap, I guess Mother Nature did me a favor (Severe weather in my area.......Wasn't able to watch it).

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Just a average show IMHO..........Nice to see Balance finally be won for the first time this season, though.

This is the first loss for the returned Card Game since it came back to the TPIR rotation not too long ago.

Is Stagg Chili still made?

This has been a long term problem, but, now that it's back in the rotation I'm wondering if maybe Card Game's ranges could stand to be retooled, as well? Starting the opening bid at $15,000 always presents the possibility that depending on the price of the car and a high range being drawn from the special deck that no cards being selected can potentially generate a win in the game.

I would suggest either dropping the opening bid down to $13K or $14K or possibly limiting the special deck to ranges of $1,000, $1,500, and $2,000 with maybe one $3,000 card in there. Just so you don't realize after the game is played "Oh, I should have done nothing to win."

Gee, that took me all of 4 seconds to find out. You see, there's this neat little search engine called Google...

http://www.hormelfoods.com/Brands/BrandWall/Stagg-Chili

Anyway...

It's nice to see the non-car/cash GP games being slotted first more frequently this season. In the later years of Bob's tenure, they were very frequently slotted last.

I agree with the commenter regarding Card Game.

I like the new setup and given that a lot of thought and time went into revamping things, here's my recommendations:

* Lower the starting bid to, for instance, $12,000. This way, at least two or three cards would need to be drawn to establish a bid.
* Offer cars that are at least $20,000. Of course, you wouldn't say that outright, but still ... the idea is to require a few draws to have a reasonable chance to win the game.

I mean, even back in the 1970s, when cars were just over $3,000, and given the maximum range of $1,000, a contestant had to draw several cards to establish a reasonably good bid. Why can't that be done now?

I agree with this, a starting bid of $14,000 plus the special deck with one $3,000 card max should be the way to go. A $5,000 card is ridiculous nowadays, because with the $15,000 starting bid that covers everything to $20,000. If the contestant doesn't have to draw a card, that makes the game pointless.

Now or Then: Too bad. That was a nice Chicago trip.
Most Expensive: I would have won this too. I thought based off the 70 inch factor that the TV would be the most expensive prize. Nice win of 3 fantastic prizes.

Gas Money: Ashamed the Jeep Compass wasn't won. I would certainly have lost this. I expect Jeeps to be over $20000.

Balance Game: Nice to see it won. I would have won since my intuition would be to price 1 of those ATVs at about $4500.

Card Game:
This has been a long term problem, but, now that it's back in the rotation I'm wondering if maybe Card Game's ranges could stand to be retooled, as well? Starting the opening bid at $15,000 always presents the possibility that depending on the price of the car and a high range being drawn from the special deck that no cards being selected can potentially generate a win in the game.

Had the $5000 card been drawn today this would have been true. What I would do with Card Game is pick a set range that each contestant playing the game had to come within, I never liked that different contestants play Card Game under different rules. Pick a set range and make it the range.

As for the gameplay it's unfortunate the Volkswagen Jetta wasn't won. Today's contestant clearly overpriced it. As for me. I overpriced it a bit too but I would have won by stopping at $17400. I thought it would be around $18000 as opposed to being right in between $17000 and $18000.

Coming or Going: Nice win of a nice prize.

Showcases: Neither was too remarkable but the closeness of the results made for a satisfying end to the show.

Lineup: Mixed bag. Card Game is so much more fun with the new set and Balance Game is always fun. And Most Expensive slots well 2nd. However we didn't get a great lead off hitter or closer today. Now or Then isn't a great leadoff hitter and Coming or Going is a bad closer. Depending on how you look at it Coming or Going is either a glorified version of Double Prices or a much duller version of Side by Side. In today's lineup I'd have flip flopped the slotting and played Coming or Going 4th and Balance Game 6th. At that point I'd live with Now or then 1st as everything after Now or then would then have slotted great.

Overall: Pretty average with no cars won and no cars offered in the showcase and a mixed bag lineup. But with so many recent 1 for 6 shows I'd gladly take a 3 for 6 show.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Money Game Lover, I don't mean to pick on a fellow Cardinals fan, but Card Game could have been won today without drawing cards.  I'm surprised more people aren't fired up about this.

And, I know it's a small thing, but.... it's "a shame", not 'ashamed'.    ;-)

You're right. It could have been won today with no cards drawn. I think having it won with no cards drawn will eventually happen. It's obviously not good for the game that that could happen.

This is probably a stupid question, and I think I already know the answer, but is it stated in the rules that the contestant must draw at least one card?  Or could they (theoretically) introduce the game after the car is described, and the contestant look at it and depending on the range they drew, be like "No, I think $15,000 is good"?
