1/2 Off: I was surprised Patrick was that close w/ his box guess.

CoG: Easy.

10C: That's one good reason why Marni's last name is Price!

S?: Should've been won in my book.

C-O: Thank goodness Shannon didn't guess $9 on the repellent at the end or she would've lost.

Dice: If that was its last playing of S42, not a bad way for it to go out!

Showcases: Good bidding!

Excellent show today.

My two cents:

1/2-Off: Tough luck. 'Nuff said. I would've picked 10, too.
Coming or Going: Piece of cake.
Ten Chances: What a win! BTW, that new reveal of the first 2 prizes looked okay, seeing that both were rather small.
Switch: Tough break. 'Nuff said.
Check Out: What a shopper! And she also won her Showcase and $1,000 on the Big Wheel!
Dice Game: Another good win!

Showcases: I prefer the 2nd Showcase, because I'm okay with a UTV and a trip to Vegas (one of the very few trips I'd be okay with).

Another great show!

Great win in 10 Chances. You can tell that was playing by a LFAT , every number ending in zero.

THE BAD NEWS:

1/2 Off: Too bad Patrick's daughter didn't turn 11. Still, tough break.

Switch?: Should've known that was a iMac.......Those prices should've stayed where they are.

THE GOOD NEWS:

CoG: Easy win by MacKensie!

Ten Chances: Finally, someone knew the zero rule! A great job by Marni, who might be a LFAT!

Dice Game: I was a little scared with that third number, but Keegan did prevailed!

Check-Out: A incredible job by Shannon! And with a 90-cent difference! And she also won her SC with a 73-cent difference, too! But on her SC, does anyone use UTVs in Vegas? Baja, California maybe.............

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Another good show this week...........Let's keep it going!

I don't post often, so to clarify, I'm in the minority opinion that Drew has at least become capable and at times is great (though I understand the point that we shouldn't have to have that talk 7 seasons in)...

That said, today's Showcase reveal, well, revealed a flaw compared to Bob that Drew just can't seem to resolve.

Once the first bidder was only $900 off, that telegraphs regular viewers that the second bidder wins with an even smaller difference.

What does Drew do?  Announces the first bid, and says "Bam".  No tension at all.  Then he reveals the second bid by pausing, finally saying 'you got it', and the $73 difference he finally announces was an afterthought.

There is only one way that Showcase winner should have been revealed- Bob style, brisk and to the point:  "You bid $20,000 on your showcase.  Actual retail price, $20,970, for a difference of $970.  (cheers) You bid $21,000 on your showcase, actual retail price of your showcase is, (raises voice as he reads the numbers), $21,897, for a difference OF $897, YOU WIN!".  Then feel free to ad lib on how close.

It's ashamed we likely won't ever hear that perfect intonation and instinctive knack for drama again on tpir.

So, I guess that explains why Drew was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host this year...................

If your aim is to contradict what I wrote above, it makes no sense.

Did I not say there are moments that Drew is great?  I *like* the guy, that's what makes stuff he fumbles, like that reveal, all the more frustrating.   I try to offer objective opinions, not be a 'pro-Drew' or 'pro-Bob' apologist.

Let me ask your honest opinion:  stick Drew, somehow, in 1987.  Does he get nominated?  Or is it a product of lack of competition?

No he wasn't. Drew does not care for awards shows and deliberately does not submit his name for nomination.

OK............Well, then:

Disregard that. It's true that he does have some good moments when he's hosting, but that came out so wrong.

A couple of noteworthy performances today:

• 10 Chances: Played about as well as could be. When one price was wrong, Marni went right to the next logical choice. And she got the car price in four tries (out of possible six); and this was a tricky price, too, with 6-7-8 as part of the jumble. Good job!

• Check-Out: Most of the prices were very close, both high and low. All but the last item, the insect repellant, was within 25 cents high or low of the ARP, and the last one was within 51 cents, and that added up to a very nice and easy win. Way to go, Shannon! Great showcase win, with an excellent bid!

10 Chances was the highlight of this show. Yeah, wins in Check-Out, Dice Game, and Coming or Going were nice...but....10 Chances was the highlight. When was the last time someone played the game that well and won so quickly?

I don't post often, so to clarify, I'm in the minority opinion that Drew has at least become capable and at times is great (though I understand the point that we shouldn't have to have that talk 7 seasons in)...

I just re-watched it and I don't think it is as bad as you claim. (And as far as 'telegraphing' that the other player has a closer difference for sure...., I don't think so. It was well within reasonable that the other bidder might have gone over on their showcase, or may have even gone over by a very small amount.) I also think that his reveal of the second bid was not horrible compared with the rest of reveals he's done in his history at price. He paused and read it out slowly then did the math that it was a $73 difference, something that takes a couple seconds to figure out. From just reading your post I would have tended to agree with you but after re-watching the video I don't think it was that horrible.

Hi,

Fair enough.   It's not that it was "horrible", it's just that it absolutely screeeeamed for the 'Bob' treatment.  Again, I like Drew and many of the changes, much more so than many here.  My main hope is for Price to be great, because I want Price to be around, well, forever.  Moments like that, that while not horrible, are moments that should be much, much better capitalized on,to  keep a show that's already getting better (ratings wise) from getting even better (in the diehard's view).

I can't recall a show when the first showcase reveal was less than $1,000 difference, that didn't have the second showcase be even lower or a DSW.  I certainly haven't researched it, but it sure seems to my (perhaps feeble) recollection that if not always, then it's almost a sure indicator of a terrific second bid.

As far as the ending of today's show goes, if i was deciding which showcase price to reveal first, I might have gone for Shannon's, just to throw regular viewers a curve. ;)

Concerning Drew, for someone who has been hosting the show for nearly seven years, he still sure says "uhhhh" a lot. I would think there would be less hesitation as to what comes next since he's had the job for so long.

I say "good job" as well. In my opinion, one might say that 10 Chances (one of my favorite games, by the way) was not "set up to be won". The price of the sunglasses was on the high end of the possibilities, and the car price was on the low end. Some contestants might have gone for a lower price (or prices) for the sunglasses first, and then for a higher price (or prices) for the car, thereby using up valuable chances. Marni either got lucky with the $650 sunglasses price, or she was indeed a good shopper. :)

1/2 Off: Bummer of a way to start. :(

Coming or Going: Those recliners really looked nice and of course a 55 inch TV is always a great prize. As for the gameplay it was setup forced win. $4216 was clearly too cheap for a prize package that awesome and it's also relatively rare for a pricing game prize/prize package to be under $5000 nowadays. Also although it's not a prize I'd be thrilled about as a contestant because I'd have no use for it that popcorn maker from contestant's row was a really cool thing to see as a viewer.

Ten Chances: Today's contestant really played the game well. Even Drew noticed how it was the best 10 chances playing we'd had for awhile. Getting the sunglasses right on her 1st try was awesome. And she knew the 0 rule. Once today's contestant had gotten the sunglasses on her 1st shot knowing the 0 rule ensured her a win with 7 chances. If you know the 0 rule 7 chances ensures winning the Mazda 2 Sport because there are only 6 possible combinations for the middle 3 numbers. The possible prices with the 0 rule were $16780,$16870,$17680,$17860,$18670,and $18760. So if you know the 0 rule and have 7 chances left if you blew threw all the wrong prices you'd win on chance 9. Awesome playing and awesome to see the Mazda 2 sport 1. :)

Switch?: Contestant forced loss. A 27 inch Apple is going to be expensive anyway. But you also add in the 32G of memory and the 3T hard drive those are some really big specs. It should have been obvious that the price over $3000 of $3229 was the correct computer price. Too bad it wasn't won. That's a fantastic computer man.

Check Out: Great playing by today's contestant. She was in the ballpark and just about everything with the replant being her weakest guess. And most of guesses including the 1 that was more off were high so she didn't really "make a difference up" with the high-low thing. Very strong playing and great to see the Sweden trip won.

Dice Game: It was obvious the 2nd digit in the Ford Fiesta would be higher than 2 and the luck of the dice placed the 3rd digit, I thought the roll for the 5th digit was going to be 3 but it rolled over to 6 at the last second for the auto lower. It came down to the all random 10's digit though I too would have won with the same rolls by saying higher. Great to end the pricing games with a Ford Fiesta win.

Showcases: I preferred the Vegas/Dubai showcase but today was more about the exciting reveal. Great bids by both contestants and it's ashamed anyone had to lose that round. When the $970 difference was revealed 1st I had hoped for a DSW but I'll gladly take an exciting game with a difference of only $73.

Lineup: Outstanding: Dice Game,10 Chances, and Check Out all in the same lineup! Totally awesome baby! And Dice Game is a GREAT closer. How awesome is it to finish with a Dice Game win! And 1/2 Off is a good leadoff hitter and slots best 1st. You see 1/2 Off is always going to have either a thrilling win or a letdown. 1/2 Off is a game in which all losses are letdowns. It works best 1st because either you get a thrilling win to get the show off to a great start or if it is a letdown as was the case today you have most of the show left to recover. I'm not a fan of switch? or Coming or Going but clearly quickies were needed today with several long games in the lineup.  Any lineup that includes 3 of the show's best games and has such a great closer is an outstanding lineup.

Overall: 4 wins, both car games won, fantastic prizes, outstanding lineup and a really close showcase between 2 great players? This was a great show. 1 of the best shows of the year!

Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.
