Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

Honestly, I don't really care for the academys or any kind of awards programs.  From what I read, the awards never have good ratings.

Not entirely true.  The 1970 Academy Awards is one of the 50 highest-rated TV programs of all-time.  At this ceremony, "Midnight Cowboy" made history by becoming the only X-rated film to win Best Picture.  Other winners in 1970 included John Wayne, Maggie Smith, Goldie Hawn, and Burt Bacharach & Hal David.

Oh ok, I know I have read in the past that some award shows don't have good ratings.  But I could be wrong.  I just know that I, for one, don't watch them.

I'm just hoping Eddie Murphy can pull it off for Best Supporting Actor; it's time somebody--anybody--from what I term "the greatest generation" gets one after they all got snubbed for years because the Academy's clearly prejudiced against comedians (I think his first go-round as the Donkey should have gotten him consideration as well, since that definitely was one of 2001's best supporting roles).

Was the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award given out, and if so to whom?

Not this year; however, two special Oscars were presented.  Film composer Ennio Morricone received the Lifetime Achievement Oscar and longtime studio executive Sherry Lansing received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
