Tournament suggestion: Top music cue of all time
« on: April 25, 2015, 01:11:49 PM »
We've had top pricing game of all time and top game show in a tournament bracket, but how about if we take all of the most-well known cues and determine the greatest background the cue has produced for all-time. Of course the Main Theme won't be used since this is the standard, but some of its cue variants can be used. When this is done, provide links to each of the cues so that we can vote easier. We can use anything from Cue 19 to the mid-70s named cues to the three-digit 1983 cues right up to modern cues such as In The Roar and Circuit Glider. That said, I'm making my suggestion of the 64 most popular/recognizable cues used on the show all-time.

My tournament picks:

-Walking (come on down '75)
-Walking (come on down '79)
-Walking (come on down '07)
-Cue 19
-Come on Down '72
-Cue 40 "funk cue"
-Cue 15
-Cue 14
-Cue 18
-Cue 17
-Old "motorcycle" cue
-Splendido
-CNAOS '74 (Ticket Plug variant)
-CNAOS '74 (Furniture variant)
-CNAOS '74 (GP variant #1- the "melodic" version if you know what I mean) (cue 86)
-CNAOS '74 (GP variant #2- the "harmonic" version)
-Concentration car cue
-The Cats
-The Cats '13
-Rye Bred
-Phaser
-Amen, Brother Herbert
-Sam
-Second Thoughts
-Dig We Must ('76)
-Dig We Must '07
-Bean Stalker
-Bean Stalker '13
-Big Banana
-Big Banana Remix '76
-Big Banana Remix '13
-Eric
-Bhen (remixed cue used more in the late '80s-'00s)
-Bhen (GP cue)
-Race Game Cue (200A)
-Temptation (brass version used for a short period c. 1983-84)
-Temptation (main SP cue #1, usually the first prize in that game)
-Temptation (main SP cue #2, often the second prize in that game)
-Phone Home Game
-Phone Home Game (GP cue)
-1983 Trip cue #1 (also used as closed captioning music)
-1983 Trip cue #2 (also used on Card Sharks '86)
-1983 IUFB cue (commonly used as the first IUFB)
-Every Room in the House/Around the World 1983 showcase music
-The "other" 1983 showcase music sometimes with key change
-Spelling Bee/Card Sharks car cue
-Make Your Move cue
-Truck/Van cue
-Check Game/Cover Up/Make Your Move think cue
-Car Slide
-Shopping Spree cue
-Safe Crackers Cue '94
-1994 Trip cue
-2003 IUFB cue (The note sequence is usually C-F-A-D-D-C-A-G-A)
-2003 Showcase music #1 (appeared slowed down near the end of its life in the early Carey era)
-2003 Showcase music #2 (appeared in a more acoustic version instead of sax/trumpets near the end of its life)
-2003 MDS car cue
-2007 car cue (the cue is in F-sharp major)

What about the other think cues? After all, if you're going to do Check Game and Safe Crackers, may I suggest the following:

Old Race Game cue
Old Switcheroo cue
Early Happy Days (current Race Game cue)
The Head Clown (current Switcheroo cue, with ending used in Switch?)
Push Over/Line em Up think cue
That's Too Much! think cue
Pink Panther (old Safe Crackers cue)
Safe Crackers '92
Silly Song (old Cliff Hangers cue)
On the Franches Mountains (current Cliff Hangers cue)

As well as these normal cues:

Line em Up cue
Passing Lane
MDS Opening Cue (with electric guitar and sax leads)
MDS CNAOS Cue (with flute lead)
Sporting Goods
Grandeur (Showcase car cue)
Starcrossed
Spring Waltz
Cue 214 (furniture IUFB cue)
Cue 14
Cue 62 (xylophone variant of TPIR Theme)
Rocket in My Pocket
1994 SP/GP Cue (the one that goes G-A-C-D-E-C-A-G)
Satisfaction Guaranteed

I believe the issue with this may be that many people (including myself) likely do not know what many of these actually are. "Cue 14" says nothing on what it is, for example, and attempting to find these cues online so everyone could make a reasonable judgment may be difficult.

In any case, however, these should also be in the list:
-The William Tell Overture (Hurdles/Kennedy Race Game cue)
-Celebrity Charades theme remix (Kennedy Switcheroo cue)

The above is my opinion and mine alone.

To answer your questions: yes, I am a guy and yes, I have a face. (I also have the occasional spurt of weirdness.)

People are tired of the f**kery and drama, but if we'd actually talk to each other sometimes instead of a whole bunch of private conversations with other people, it'd go a long way to perhaps fixing the problems most seem to see in the site.

I just realize Cue 14 was already listed. It is best known for use in many SP games, most notably Shell Game and Plinko. And Cue 19 is known as an IUFB cue, with Cue 40 a funk variant of that song which found the most use in Secret "X" and Penny Ante. The Make Your Move prize cue is Cue 210A (or 209, depending on who you ask).

Also, I can't believe I forgot about the Range Game think cue (which was also originally used in Blank Check/Check Game until 1988)! Let's put that in there, and the Every Room in the House Showcase cue too.

Yeah, as much of a fan of the show as I am, I have no flippin' clue what many of these cues are unless I actually hear them, and as far as I'm concerned, many of them aren't freely available for listening. I think a "name your favorite cue" thread would be a better idea, rather than an all-out tournament.
Pardon my language, but I do believe we all need to calm the f*** down.
