I hadn't really thought about this before, but the reality of death means that every day there are less people in the world than the day before.  In reality there are many more people in the world than this but for illustration: If one day there are 1000 people in the world and the next day 55 people die, now there are 945 people in the world. if 30 more die the next day now there are 915 people in the world. So we'll eventually become extinct as will all creatures as the same reality applies to dogs, cats, horses etc.

Nothing to elaborate, really, except contestants losing to some easy setups...Pathy, however, was not easy. Sure made it worse for someone who only watched the show once.

That being said, I will say that Giuliano was a delight and he did make today's skunked show a tad more enjoyable than other ones in the past.

My total was 11 cents away from the actual total in Check Out. :)

That being said, I will say that Giuliano was a delight and he did make today's skunked show a tad more enjoyable than other ones in the past.

I didn't find today's show enjoyable. Giuliano seemed genuine, but I wish that a much wider spectrum of contestants was selected. All of the yelling & screaming (now quite audible "thanks" to the mics) and jumping around from so many contestants was just irritating. Can we get some kind of balance, at least? That, all of the edits, and Drew's poor explanations (including his tired "birthday" bit, which even he didn't stick with all the way through Temptation) made today's show difficult for me to watch. I didn't even notice the number of wins and losses.

Also, remember when the CBS pages used to stand near the ends of Contestant's Row? (I'm wondering now why that was changed.) Having them there today would likely have prevented Giuliano from getting on stage while Drew made his entrance. That looked awkward and made me, even sitting right here, feel uncomfortable.

For someone from out of country who has only watched the show once, I'd say Giuliano handled it okay. Too bad he had to get stuck with Pathfinder. At least he didn't have the pressure of trying to stop a skunked show or complete a perfect show.

Take note, next person who bids $7,000 in Contestant's Row. :police:

Sorry not sorry - I long for the days when Giuliano would've been kept on stage and a fun moment created, rather than "Uhh, hi man. Right down there." He had the potential to be a spectacular contestant, and I almost cringe when those sorts of contestants come up, because I know Drew is going to do zero to draw out that personality. I know he's going to stand there and giggle, maybe bend over and laugh-mumble, and "George what do we have for him". It's really a disappointment.

I had high hopes for this show, starting out with Temptation, didn't even mind Drew's shtick that much. But it was just all downhill from there.

The contestants today, particularly the girl in Check-Out who found it necessary to jump around like a lunatic after announcing each bid, were just borderline obnoxious. This is why I'd never make it on this show today. I'm far too laid-back a personality, and I think the only way I'm getting on these days is if I decide to experiment with illicit drugs for the first time on the morning of taping.

That's not completely fair. Was Bob there? No. But from Drew we did find out some of Giuliano's story and Drew at least made note of it more than once as Giuliano made his way to winning the showcase.

In fact, if it weren't for me at least knowing his story, I probably wouldn't have rooted for Giuliano as hard as I did.

I'm not giving Drew a complete pass. He doesn't do a great job getting information from contestants. Some of it is him. He just gets the basic stuff and sometimes not even that. Some of it is time limitation. We don't have time to mine for gold like Bob did. I bet Roger tried to guide him in the direction of gathering information, but when you're down to 37-38 minutes of show time, sometimes they don't want you to take up so much time talking to the contestants.

I think the reason contestants are like this today is simply because of Drew's inability to "mine for gold" with contestants. I agree, there's not mucih time for this as there was years ago, but it's almost as if contestants are being told to act as crazy and be as loud as possible. Perhaps this is why the lav mics were created so viewers could hear the contestants scream at the top of their lungs while moving around the stage. I personally hate it but I believe its something we're going to have to deal with.

The thing that made this show so special was the wide variety of personalities. Just because someone is quiet dosen't mean they won't be fun. They might have a sense of humor, a good story, or have good strategy either bidding or playing a pricing game. Makes me miss the good old days even more.

I would agree, to a certain extent. Drew doesn't mine the contestants as much as was done in the past, but I think that's more because there's no time anymore in the show to really do that. I do believe Drew has stated in the past he likes talking to the audience during the breaks, so I'd like to think if he was given the opportunity to mine a little more he would.

You also have to remember, Bob was a born and bred game show host. Drew is not. He may not be as light on his feet as Bob was in instances like that, because Bob did it practically his whole life. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. In some ways it's for the best that we have a "non-game-show-host" as host, because there's a smaller likelihood they'll try to "be like Bob". Drew may miss a beat from time to time, but in the grand scheme of things, I think he's done fine.

As for the contestants being obnoxious—I think it's just the culture anymore. Everything is loud and in-your-face so it can compete for your attention. We could probably make a whole new discussion about it (If Bob/Roger were still around, would contestants be the same, and how well would the show be faring doing things "the old way") but that's for another time.

I keep seeing this "not enough time for contestant interaction" argument. How much time have we lost since Barker left? IIRC, we were already short on time at the end of his tenure, but we didn't have this problem.

I also think it's pretty apparent that Drew takes as much time as he pleases and is under no pressure to keep the show moving. It's not that he doesn't have the time to "gold mine", he just chooses not to. He's had eight years to nurture those skills, "game show host" background or not, and instead we have "Next prize please, George." That was my gripe for this particular show. There are moments he definitely tries. They're just fewer than they should be.

Never start a point with this phrase if you want it taken seriously.

Forgive me if I don't follow the example you've set for posting behavior.

And back then, they cut out the original Hi-Lo reveal, original Safe Crackers reveal, and mid-show bumper. Perhaps it wasn't a problem, because they found a few things to cut and Barker knew when to speed things up when he ran long with someone and the show was running short. If time was short enough back then to have to cut all of that and time has been cut further, they're probably having a hard time finding things to cut. What else have the cut since Barker left? The CNAOS segment is the only real thing of substance that comes to mind.

Listen, I'm not giving Drew a complete pass. I said that earlier. He doesn't dig as much as Bob did and his tosses to prize reveals are not even that. They're tosses to George who goes into the prize reveal. I was saying, however, that the squeeze is on and Drew isn't the type to speed things up when it's running long, especially when he knows the show is already going to edit some things to shreds. I'm not going to bet the house on it, but I'm willing to say that if the show was given at least 3 more minutes extra time, that over time we would see Drew have more interaction with contestants before revealing prizes.

I thought the Hi-Lo reveal didn't change until Season 37 or late in Season 36.

Heh, for some reason, I was so sure on that change that I didn't bother to look it up whereas I looked up the date of the Safe Crackers change and mid-show bumper change.
