Only if the PG was lost.

This format was terrible. They seemed to realize that ejecting contestants from the row early was very unfair, but slapping on $1000 and putting a rooting incentive for someone to LOSE a PG? Even worse! We've had dozens of specials, and this is the first to mrrp up the format of the show like this. Please, never again.
S46... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

I did not like this TPIR episode at all! I thought the altered format was a little too cut-throat, and very unsporting! This was one of their worst theme ideas of all-time!

Good Game Lineup Today.
We got a rare day in which not one regular Car Game was played.
Other than the All Plinko show , this is the first time in years which that didn't happen.

I liked the dynamic of calling two people down to "face each other" at one time, which was certainly different for Price. However, once the opponent was defeated in contestant's row and had to return to his or her seat, maybe it would have been better if he or she received the $1000 if the victor won the pricing game. The victor would still go on to spin the wheel and perhaps go to the showcase, and the "rooting for someone to lose" factor would have been lessened or eliminated.

Coincidentally, the two contestants whose rivals won $1,000 also won $1,000 on the Big Wheel.

I imagine the atmosphere in the audience must have been electric, but it did not carry over in the broadcast. A huge misstep in my opinion, and they should not try this again. Besides, nothing says March Madness Basketball like football helmets.

I could kind of get onboard with doing the 2-player specials. But, they screwed up the format of the show doing this. It would be wise not to tinker with it again.

The double call downs, the $ 1,000 for "losing"...the football helmets for something that is supposed to be tied to March Madeness....unless this repeats at that start of College Football season....This felt too gimmicky and out of place....Jeopardy! would be the better place for a "College Rivalry" show/sereis

Deep down there is a good idea there. I liked the idea of the rivals facing off. I didn't even mind them sending someone back.

But the rooting against them for 1000? That part seemed mean.

I'm all for the show trying new ideas- I like many of them. This one though...needs to go back to the drawing board.

Despite a good pricing game record, this is quite possibly my least favorite special since the all-Plinko episode. The penalty for losing a pricing game leaves a bad taste in my mouth since it's mean-spirited and goes against the purpose of the show. It brought back memories of Family Feud's Battle of the Divorced Couples specials where if a team lost Fast Money, they won nothing and their exes split a consolation pot.

Well, if what Drew said at the end was any indication, they might do another one of these next year

I hope he was kidding.

I know I'm going to be one of a few, but I actually enjoyed today's show.  The theme was fairly well executed and the "losing team" going back to their seats was a unique twist that didn't hurt the framework of the show.  The games were exciting to watch, and I could tell there was definitely some electricity in the crowd.

I didn't have a problem with the whole "if they lose their game, you win $1,000".  The whole "rooting against someone" is awkward until you consider IT'S COLLEGE RIVALS.  They're going to root against each other regardless.  That's how it works in those rivalries.  As a Gamecock, I hate Clemson.  It's in the rule book.  Seeing those colleges represented they way they were and watching the way it played out just seemed to work for me.

And in the rule book of The (traditional) Price Is Right, everybody's there to have fun and cheer on each other.
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

- Roger Dobkowitz on Stu's Show September 23, 2009.
