the "mayor" of CBS Television City
« on: April 08, 2007, 02:16:26 AM »
Charles Cappleman started his 50-year career at CBS Television City in 1954 as a stage manager. Upon retiring in 2004, he was the facility's Vice President of Operations.

Anyone interested in the subject of CBS Television City ought to enjoy Mr. Cappleman's oral history videos. He makes a few references to game shows, too.

Part 2  (first CBS job was stage manager)

Part 3  (working on live dramas)

Part 4 (becoming Manager of Stage Operations)

Part 5  (CBS game show electronics department)

Part 6  (The Carol Burnett Show, William S. Paley)

Part 7  (CBS Columbia Square, dubbing two-inch quad tapes for Goodson)

Part 8  (CBS/Westinghouse/Viacom mergers)

On the "50 Years at Television City" special, Cappleman showed that he still has his first CBS ID card from when he was doing stage work for Red Skelton (at Studio 33).  I didn't know his role in game show technology before.  Very interesting.
