Grand Game Cue Question

Back in the early 90s, the Combs version of the Family Feud theme served as the intro for Grand Game, and then it was changed back to the Dawson version after a year, IRC. I'm now suspecting it could've been that CBS had cancelled the network version of Feud, but allowed the syndicated version to drag on for two more years (one with Combs, and the other with Dawson). What exactly was the reason for this change?
