Game show host ear pieces

Through the years, I've noticed certain game show hosts with wireless ear buds/pieces including Maury Povich on 21, Richard Karn on Family Feud, and Chris Hardwick on The Wall.  Wayne Brady on Let's Make A Deal has a wired ear piece that is more commonly worn by musicians, is much more noticeable, and bulky.  Also, other broadcast hosts, anchors, etc are using the musician style.  Even Tyra Banks on America's Got Talent has the musician one.  Is the musician style the direction that broadcast ear buds/pieces are going in?  I understand what they're used for but can they be less noticeable and not so distracting?
