2018 MLB Season
« on: March 20, 2018, 01:26:48 PM »
Another baseball season is fast approaching upon us!

When we last saw any MLB action, the Houston Astros beat the odds to wrap up their first-ever World Series championship. Their opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, are out for some revenge, and it's now been 30 years since the last time they won the whole thing. Will either the Dodgers, Astros, or one of the other 28 teams emerge victorious in the Fall Classic this year? With the Astros now off the list of teams that have never held up the trophy, it's now down to the Rangers, Nationals, Padres, Brewers, Mariners, Rockies and Rays.

Atlanta names Julio Teheran as their opening day starter. Their offense is shaping up to be productive but their pitching is still a glaring question mark.

We wouldn't be surprised if the Padres finally get a no-hitter.

No surprise, Chris Sale has been named the opening day starter for the Red Sox.

I did not expect Giancarlo Stanton to sign with another team in the off-season, much less the Yankees.

Something tells me it's going to be another rough season for the Seattle Mariners.  Oh well, I still love them anyways.  Go M's.

Atlanta gets off to a good start defeating the Phillies 8-5 on Nick Markakis’ walk-off three-run homer last night.

A first for the Blue Jays, as Kevin Pillar steals not one, not two, but three bases en route to the Jays' first win, 5-3 over the Yankees.

The “pace of play” rule change claims its first ejection victim in Atlanta’s Brian Snitker. Sure, let’s limit mound visits but umpires making themselves the center of attention is just fine.

Justin Smoak hit a 2 out grand slam home run off David Robertson in the 8th inning as the Blue Jays stunned the Yankees 7-4.

The Yankees bullpen wasn't the best in the last two games.

I have a bad feeling that the Orioles are returning back to their "dark age" days that ended not too long ago, with a winning percentage currently below the Mendoza Line. Five straight L's after an Opening Day W. Their best pitcher, Dylan Bundy is like a No. 4 starter on a team like the Astros or Dodgers, and their team batting average (.176, not far off from their winning percentage) is also lackluster, which reflected in last night's loss to the 'stros. Even Opening Day wasn't sold out until around an hour before the game. Not what the city needs with a struggling economy, and a 100-loss season I'm afraid is in the cards more so than a playoff berth. Like the Padres and Rays, expect good discounts for fans of visiting teams in contention, except for perhaps the Yankees.

The Braves are off to their best start in three years. Nobody's expecting them to maintain that momentum--the Nationals are still the team expected to win the NL East. The year is still early.
