I’m not sure if there’s a problem with Magic Number or it just attracts stupid contestants.

I’m not sure if there’s a problem with Magic Number or it just attracts stupid contestants.

I just think that most don't get that most prizes aren't in the low $1000s anymore or wasn't clear to them that there is often a clear and obvious discrepancy in prize between the two items.

Other than ask the contestants themselves what they believed the prize of the less-expensive item is and then try to make a fix (I don't know what'd be) I don't have a solution. Eventually someone will get it and others will catch on.

The audience was definitely not helping on that Magic # guess, there were bunches of people telling her to go even lower.  Me, if I ever played this game, I'd set the number about $2500 and take my prizes tyvm.

Hard to believe that Rachel's been on the show for 15 years; as you know, I did a recap on her first episode, and you can read it here.

Easy Swap Meet, the shoes and treadclimber were definitely more than the laptop.

Tough break in Let em Roll. I thought the Boost drinks were going to be less than the lotion and she got that one right but then said more for the detergent.

Magic # had a better guess last time it was played, now we're back to setting it way too low. Is $5,994 the most expensive prize ever offered in the game?

David wasted his first guess in Switcheroo putting the 6 in the car. Much better guess with the 2 the second time, too bad it was the 3 there.

Not even close.

Let me also add this is only the 4th time in Magic # history where the spread between both prizes was over $4,000
( all occurring in the last 3 seasons )

In that case, the game should actually be won more.

As "ooboh" pointed out, on 6/13/17, it was played for an $8990 8' barbecue island.

On 11/4/15, the upper prize was a $6699 Honda ATV.

Ironically, on March 1, 2017, the upper prize was the exact same 7' barbecue island that was offered today, and it had the exact same price of $5994.

Actually, today was the FIFTH time.  The other times were:

Date         Bottom End   Top End      Range
11/04/2015       $2,000     $6,699     $4,699
04/26/2016       $   875     $5,400     $4,525
06/13/2016       $2,970     $8,990     $6,020
03/01/2017       $1,344     $5,994     $4,650

I did a comprehensive analysis a few months ago, where I determined that if you set the Magic # to $3000, you would win slightly over 95% of the time.  Maybe it's time potential contestants learned this unspoken rule.

It's four times. On that date's playing , the magic # was set at $875 , the lower priced prize was $1999.
